Scientist, Microbiome Research & Development (Finance)
Responsible for independent implementation of protocols, documentation, for applications and new product development. Specifically, evaluate instrumentation and reagents to support new research areas such as microbiome research and microscopy applications. Write reports, SOP's, technical documents, and application notes. Provide technical support and troubleshooting of technical problems to our customers and participate in training.
Professional Qualifications
Education
Ph.D. in biological sciences, nutrition, food science, cell biology, molecular biology, or a related field.
Experience
Ideally, experience outside of your Ph.D. program. This could include post-doc experience and/or industrial experience.
Strong understanding and extensive experience in basic and advanced molecular biology lab techniques. In particular, experience may include: Tissue section preparation, immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry, protein or tissue arrays. In addition, a strong background of microscope systems and related software is required.
Key areas of experience are desired in microbiome research in animal models with a strong histology background. Target evaluation using microimaging and confocal microscopy imaging experience is essential. Strong understanding of histological staining procedures is required.
Laboratory experience desired with a broad range of laboratory instrumentation and animal handling. Familiarity with Windows operating environment and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Experience leading research projects and collaboration with diverse groups to accomplish research goals.
Effective oral and written communication skills in English. Able to analyze and present experimental results and departmental and project meetings. Able to write SOP's and technical documents.
Able to interact effectively with customers to assist with technical issues and troubleshooting, and to facilitate customer collaborations. May be required to travel to customer sites for training and collaboration.
Creative, highly motivated self-starter with good insight and problem-solving skills. Able to effectively coordinate multiple tasks and projects.
Position Responsibilities
SPECIFIC:
Development: Independently conduct experiments and interpret results to meet project deadlines. Evaluate new technologies and compare results with current technologies. Develop new methods, applications and products, as assigned. Collaborate with external scientist to drive projects forward.
Customer support and interaction: Participate in training of field application specialists and distributors, and other personnel. Provide technical assistance and support to customers.
Technical sales assistance: Develop and give technical presentations for customers, workshops and seminars. Present scientific posters and talks. Assist in on-site demonstrations.
Technical writing: Write and review LI-COR technical documents such as protocols, and application notes; write and review technical submissions for scientific meetings and journals; write and review technical papers submitted to referee scientific journals. Maintain a detailed laboratory notebook and prepare monthly research reports.
