What we offer
URW is seeking a strategic, innovative temporary leasing counsel who will help drive URW's objectives to help reshape how people shop, live, work and play. You will possess the passion to go the extra mile with a strong moral compass and ethics aimed to build trust and transparency across the company. This role will report to the Associate General Counsel, Head of Leasing.
In this role, your main missions are:
Draft and negotiate leases, letters of intent, subleases, amendments, assignments, temporary license agreements, and other related leasing documents.
Assist the leasing teams in tenant lease negotiations. Must be able to identify and discuss legal and business issues and assist the teams in resolving such issues in the best interest of the Company.
Provide advice to the business in the avoidance of legal disputes including landlord/tenant legal issues, tenant leases, tenant defaults and other miscellaneous legal matters.
Other responsibilities shall include, without limitation:
Participate in the development and interpretation of company operating policies and procedures.
Provide guidance and advice on legal aspects of leasing and other general real estate matters.
Provide guidance to paralegals and coordinators to process lease documentation through execution.
Provide general legal advice related to leasing matters that may arise from time to time.
What we are looking for
You. . .
Member of the California Bar in good standing.
Strong academic credentials preferred.
“Big law firm” and in-house experience preferred. Experience with REITs and/or real estate companies preferred.
5+ years prior experience negotiating and drafting complex retail, office and/or mixed-use lease documents, preferably in regional or flagship mixed use retail development settings.
Excellent reading, oral/written communication skills, strong analytical capability, negotiation skills and concise grammatical skills, detail oriented with strong organizational skills.
Strong work ethic with a positive, can-do attitude.
Strong initiative and ability to manage multiple projects as well as strong follow through skills.
Ability to work well with others in a fast paced, team-oriented and dynamic environment.
Ability to complete projects timely and accurately and to interact and communicate diplomatically with others.
