Commodity Manager (Finance)



What will you do?
  • Develop and manage the ASCO Power Technologies supply base for assigned commodities used at ASCO Power Technologies locations globally. This position must understand how to minimize total costs while providing world class service and support to the organization. (material, logistics, inventory carrying costs, tariffs, quality...)
  • The commodity manager will be required to manage annual purchase volume between $40 million-$55 million with limited oversight. Must be a self-starter.
  • Maintain excellent communications with departments at each facility concerning ongoing use of material and plans for future requirements. Facilitate cross functional collaboration to drive optimal source selection and deployment.
  • Travel to ASCO Power, other companies and supplier locations as required to properly prepare for and conduct negotiations and follow-up activities.

  • Responsibility for developing and implementing strategic sourcing strategies. These strategies must be consistent with ASCO's overall business strategy.
  • Responsibility for developing and implementing supply and service agreements for a multi-plant division of a global manufacturing company.
  • Identify preferred suppliers that are best in class; that will ensure quick service, cost containment, continuous quality improvement and state of the art technology development. Consolidation of supply base into preferred suppliers.
  • Select suppliers, conduct supplier negotiations, establish and monitor supply agreements.
  • Keep ASCO management on top of developments with suppliers and industries that affect ASCO's short-term business performance and long-term business strategy.
  • Develop and implement effective cost management programs to deliver optimized Total Cost of Ownership and continuous cost improvement.
  • Develop and implement a fast, responsive and flexible supply chain for assigned commodities.
  • Negotiate best in class payment terms to maximize cash flow.
  • Maintain commodity and cost data in ASCO's material databases.
  • Establish strong communication with other functional areas to jointly develop cost reduction opportunities and to implement negotiated agreements.
  • Execute plans to assure continuous supply of quality goods and services.
  • Work with cross functional teams at all business units (ASCO and other Schneider) worldwide to identify and implement best practices in supply chain.
  • Track and communicate performance to company and plant level performance to goals.
  • Effectively utilize web-based e-sourcing tools and other spend analysis databases.
  • Work with other internal departments and suppliers to gain an understanding of requirements in various operations and product lines.
  • In conjunction with Quality Department, implement the Schneider Supplier Quality program. Continuous improvement to supplier performance in on-time delivery, quality, service levels
  • Support the Quality. Manufacturing and Engineering teams to ensure that our suppliers meet our quality requirements.
  • Manage and monitor material changes for compliance to quality and technical standards.
  • Analyze suppliers manufacturing capabilities, capacity, technology employed, financial strength and overall competitive position in their respective industry.
  • Develop in depth knowledge of all facets of the supply chain from suppliers' sources to use in ASCO products.
  • Forecast supply vulnerabilities and implement plans to ensure continuity of supply.
  • Assure excellence of job performance and pursue professional development through professional certification seminars, trade show participation, education, periodicals, and supplier contacts.
  • Train and mentor associates in all departments in purchasing practices, procedures, and new methods of performing job tasks. This includes, but is not limited to, Buyers throughout ASCO Power.
  • Ensure compliance with purchasing policies and procedures, ethical practices, ASCO values and compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.

Who will you report to?

What qualifications will make you successful for this role?
  • Bachelor's Degree required and MBA a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in manufacturing operations, purchasing, supply chain, engineering or sales in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum 3 years of strategic sourcing or commodity management experience in a manufacturing environment with clearly demonstrated achievements and advancement.
  • Strong record of successful strategic sourcing initiatives.
  • Excellent applied negotiating skills. Position requires tact and diplomacy in dealing with suppliers and internal customers.
  • Possess strong analytical skills. Must be able analyze large data sets, interpret results and communicate the findings to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to understand and interpret technical data, including blueprints and diagrams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent English communications is a must, multi-lingual preferred (Spanish, French, Chinese)
  • Impeccable moral character and high ethical standards.
  • Excellent computer-based skills including spreadsheet development, word processing and charting capabilities.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.
