Heavy Equipment Technician in Training (Maintenance)
The Sherwood Companies have a proven track record of completing a variety of projects from General Construction, to Construction Management and Design Build Projects for both public and private owners. A brief summary of the types of projects include, urban expressways, bridges, underground utilities, dam construction, asphalt/concrete paving and water/wastewater treatment plants.
JOB DESCRIPTION
For 18 months, this Technician position is designed for Diesel Technology graduates pursuing a long-term career with our company as a Heavy Equipment Technician. The incumbent will be mentored by expert Shop, Field and Lube Technicians while having the opportunity to apply and refine their acquired skills, broaden their knowledge base with real world practice, and gain exposure to developmental opportunities while experiencing all three available Technician roles. Travel may be required.ACTIVITIES/TASKS/SCOPE
· Keep work area clean, orderly and safe
· Help provide routine maintenance of equipment
· Assist with assembly, set up, adjustment and/or repair of all types of construction equipment and parts
· Learn to operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects
· Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints and technical drawings
· Aid in dismantling and reassembling heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools
· Collaborate with the Technician to adjust, maintain and repair or replace subassemblies; such as engines, transmissions and other components using hand tools, jacks and cranes
· Examine parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges
· Perform scheduled maintenance for construction equipment and maintain service records
· Document work in process, as well as completed work
· Provide assistance with adjusting and maintaining construction equipment, trucks and machinery
· Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles
· Operate in a safe and efficient manner following all personal protective equipment (PPE) and process requirements
· Ability to maintain a positive attitude and work in a team setting

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
· High School Diploma or GED and Diesel Technical School degree required
· Must be 18 years or older and have a valid driver's license
· CDL preferred
