Technical Writer Associate (Project Management)
The successful candidate for Technical Writer must be dependable and thorough in their work; they will collect and organize information required for the preparation of a variety of military technical publications.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Requirements will be to research source data, prepare technical content, determine illustration requirements, develop written material and edit material for technical manuals; primarily operator's and field maintenance manuals, for military vehicles and equipment. *
Oversee the development and integration of art and text during publishing to ensure proper integration of art and text in a logical, accurate, and easy-to-read format; will work with logisticians, provisioning, engineers, and other technical personnel.*
Provide desktop publishing support in the production of technical manuals, repair parts lists, and other technical publications.*
Use a variety of applications and software to input text, import art (graphics and/or halftones), key-line art, and format text and art for the production of print technical manuals (TMs), electronic TMs (ETMs), and interactive electronic TMs (IETMs).*
Operate related office equipment such as printers and scanners. Produce CDs, .PDF files, and .TIF files as required. *
Follow in-house style guides as well as government specifications and standards. *
May be assigned collateral duties in support of on-going program(s). *
Some overtime and/or travel may be required on a sporadic basis.
*Essential function Minimum Requirements:
Must have Bachelor's Degree in appropriate discipline; or without degree, 8 years of experience in technical writing with some college or professional training. (Must possess a minimum of 6 years writing experience related to technical writing and technical manual development.)
Must be able to work in a team environment with customers, other Technical Writers, Logisticians and other personnel to complete assigned tasks.
Must have working knowledge of military publications and specifications such as MIL-STD-40051-C, and MIL-HDBK-1222C.
Must have workingknowledge of SGML and/or XML tagging, use of Arbortext Editor, Epic Editor, or like authoring software.
Proficiency in publishing software and/or knowledge of interactive electronic technical manual (IETM) development a distinct advantage. Working experience with IADS and EMS-NG software are a must.
Participate in Validation and Verifications of technical documentation and technical manuals supporting military vehicles and support equipment and should be familiar with Military Technical Manuals (TMs), Depot Maintenance Work Requirements (DMWRs), National Maintenance Work Requirements (NMWRs), Maintenance Work Orders (MWOs), and Engineering Improvement Report (EIR) Digest Articles.
Must have excellent working knowledge of PC's to include working with Microsoft Office and Adobe software products.
Prior military a plus.
Must be able to communicate effectively in Military/DoD environment.
Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employer.
Ability to read, write and speak English functionally.
