Nurse Coordinator - Behavioral Emergency Response Team (BERT) (Finance)
The County of Riverside's University Health System (RUHS) has an opportunity for a Nurse Coordinator who will provide management oversight for the Medical Center's Behavioral Emergency Response Team (BERT). The BERT team responds to all behavioral emergency response issues, assists the Psychiatrist with prison examinations and is involved with the homeless population.
The Nurse Coordinator will report directly to the Executive Director of Critical Care/Emergency Services. This position is responsible for coordination of patient assessment and implementation of interventions in order to ensure optimal outcomes, documentation of interventions and outcomes, and communication with other team members, management of team staff, hiring, coaching staff, counseling, discipline, providing education training and all research documentation needed for the BERT program and reporting requirements.
The ideal candidate for this position will possess at least four (4) years of progressive Registered Nurse experience in a hospital and/or psychiatric facility, with at least two (2) years providing staff oversight. Additional experience working with psychiatric patients is preferred.
This class has been deemed eligible for the Performance Recognition Plan as set forth under Article 3, Section 311(C) of the County Management Resolution. Program eligibility requires employees to be in a leadership position, manage other employees or programs, and have significant influence on the achievement of organizational objectives.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Managing small project teams to develop, execute and complete assignments
May participate in the hiring, selection, and performance evaluation of staff members
Documenting operational tasks and reporting to upper-level management
Assist with new employee onboarding and training program
Schedule and timecard management
Participate in quality improvement and clinical research activities related to patient care.
Monitor and ensure program and staff compliance to Joint Commission, state and federal standards and regulations, and RUHS policies regarding patient care.
Keep abreast of new developments in the nursing or clinical specialty field.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in nursing. A Master's degree in nursing is preferred. (Additional qualifying experience may substitute for up to a maximum of two years of education on the basis of one year of full-time experience being equal to 30 semester or 45 quarter units.)
Experience: Four years of progressively responsible nursing experience on the nursing staff of an accredited acute care hospital, which included some experience in a lead capacity for a specialty area.
License:Possession of a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
Certification(s): Basic Life Support (BLS)
Knowledge of: Modern principles, techniques, and procedures of nursing; nursing processes and its application in patient care; licensure, accreditation, and regulatory requirements; principles and techniques of effective supervision and administration; principles of quality assurance and research; problem solving techniques, team building principles, and infection control as it relates to bed assignments.
Ability to: Plan, organize, direct, coordinate, and review the activities of assigned nursing services; supervise, instruct, motivate, and train professional and nonprofessional employees; analyze needs of nursing services in terms of personnel, equipment, and supplies; identify opportunities for improvement in nursing operations consistent with contemporary nursing trends; establish and maintain systems of records and reports; establish and maintain cooperative relationships; apply management principles; relate and work effectively with others; communicate effectively in verbal and written English.

DEFERRED COMPENSATION: Voluntary employee contribution with a choice between two 457 deferred compensation plan options.
401(a) MONEY PURCHASE PLAN: County contribution of $50 per pay period towards choice between two 401(a) plan providers.
ANNUAL LEAVE (Bi-Weekly Accrual):
0 < 36 months = 8.92 Hours
36 to <108>108 or more months = 12.00 Hours
Maximum Annual Leave accumulation is 1,800 hours. Employee may receive pay in lieu of up to 80 hours per calendar year. Agency/Department Head may approve an additional 80 hours.
ANNUAL LEAVE for Unrepresented Management Attorneys: Effective July 12, 2012, the specific affected Unrepresented Management Attorney classifications as stated in Article 22 of the Management Resolution will receive an additional 4 hours per pay period to their Annual Leave accrual. This additional leave accrual will expire at the end of the last pay period in June 2014. In addition, the maximum accrual for Annual Leave (or vacation) will be raised by 200 hours for eligible employees only. Maximum Annual Leave accumulation is 2,000 hours.
HOLIDAYS: Normally 12 paid holidays per year.
BEREAVEMENT LEAVE: 5 days (3 days are County paid; 2 days can be taken through use of accrued leave balances).
BASIC LIFE INSURANCE: $50,000 of term life coverage. Premiums are paid by the County. Additional Supplemental Life plan is available for employee purchase.
LONG-TERM DISABILITY (LTD): Benefit pays 66.67% of earnings to a maximum of $10,000 per month; 30-day waiting period; pays to age 65. Benefit can be coordinated with other available leave balances to provide up to 100% of pay.
POST RETIREMENT MEDICAL CONTRIBUTION: A monthly contribution is made by the County towards retiree health insurance offered through the County as governed by the Management Resolution or applicable bargaining unit.
