Covid Safety at Zingerman's Mail Order
The health and safety of our staff is our greatest priority. We are adamantly following the guidelines and directives from the CDC, Washtenaw County, the State of Michigan and other experts. We are focusing on screening, sanitizing and distancing in our building:
We are screening everyone who comes to work each day for symptoms.
All staff members wear masks at all times inside our buildings.
We are sanitizing all touched surfaces every two hours.
We have set up safe working distances for every employee.
We practice social distancing of a minimum of 6 feet from each other.
We have almost no contact with customers, 99.9% of interactions are by phone and email.
The Performance Expectations for this position are:
We wear headsets, answer phones and enter orders into computers like there's nothing else we'd rather be doing.
We send emails to our customers that are so good they feel like they were delivered in person.
We perform amazing feats of customer service by web, phone, fax, email, snail mail, and in person.
We work to deliver a great experience to each of our customers and to each other.
We knock our customers' socks off. Both socks. Every single time.
The Success Patterns for this position are:
Ease & fluidly works with a computer, internet and learns new software quickly.
Type minimum of 40 words per minute. (take a practice test at typingtest.com - testing will be required)
Know how to use Chrome, Google applications and Microsoft Word and Excel.
Ability to navigate across multiple web browsers, tabs and applications flawlessly.
Excellent spelling and grammar skills. (Testing will be required.)
Ability to read, speak, and write fluently in English.
No experience necessary. Previous experience in any form of customer service or sales, food sales is considered a bonus.
Ability to compose comprehensive and caring emails quickly.
Dedicated to providing exceptional customer service.
You must be available to work at least 3 shifts per week.
If hired, you must commit to 4 consecutive days of training.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
Team player who will work effectively in a group and individually.
Have reliable transportation to and from work. (We are on the AATA bus route)

What and where is this job?
This is a job in our Service Center located at 720 Phoenix Drive, Ann Arbor MI 48108. Our service center is open seven days a week and extended hours in December. It is where we answer the phone calls and emails from our customers. (We will also have jobs in our warehouse at the same address where we pick and pack boxes - holiday positions will be posted soon.) Our building is just around the corner from the AATA bus route.
What does it take to get hired in our Service Center?
There are lots of things we are hoping to find in anyone who applies. But there are four musts:
You can type at least 40 words per minute. It's not super fast, but it's not slow. (take a practice test at typingtest.com - testing will be required)
You know your way around a computer and the internet.
You can work at least one of these 10 shifts, the entire shift, at least 3 times per week:
Shift 1: 6:45am-3pm (December only)
Shift 2: 8am-4pm
Shift 3: 9am-5pm
Shift 4: 10am-6pm
Shift 5: Noon-8pm
Shift 6: 4pm - 10pm
Shift 7: 5pm - 10pm
Shift 8: 6pm-10pm
Shift 9: 6pm - 2:30am (December only)
Shift 10: 7pm-Midnight (December only)
You can commit to training 4 consecutive days.

Will I get full time work?
We aim to, but it depends. If you can work more shifts at different times of the day and week, there's a greater chance we can do so. If your schedule is more limited then it'll be harder to schedule you full time.
When does this job begin and end?
Work starts in October and ends on or around December 23, 2021.
Can I apply for full-time work after the job ends?
Yes! We'll have a limited number of full time positions at Mail Order and elsewhere in the Zingerman's Community of Businesses after the holiday.
