Mechanical Engineer 1 (Finance)
Illumina is looking for a bright and talented Mechanical Engineer to join our Lifecycle Management team in Hayward, Ca. The Mechanical Engineer 1 will play a key role in manufacturing sustainment and new product introduction of world-class DNA sequencing instruments.
Under the supervision of senior engineers, you will design and build test fixtures, perform qualification testing of critical mechanical components and sub-assemblies, and contribute to continuous improvement projects, while interfacing with other functional teams in Hayward, Foster City, San Diego, and Singapore. Not to mention, collaborate with external suppliers and contract manufacturers who build our submodules.
Responsibilities:
Contribute to manufacturing sustainment and new product introduction activities
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g. manufacturing, process, electrical, quality, regulatory, development) for failure analysis, root cause, and corrective actions
Design mechanical test fixtures using Solidworks
Create detailed engineering drawings, Bills of Materials, test reports, assembly procedures, and design validation plans
Represent Lifecycle Management in project teams to release quality products into manufacturing and incorporate new designs into life sciences instruments
Coordinate ECO (Engineering Change Order) implementation activities such as material disposition, update work instructions and test requirements
Requirements:
Solid grasp of engineering fundamentals (mechanics of materials, motion control systems, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, etc.)
Experience creating 3D models and 2D drawings in CAD (Solidworks preferred)
Basic knowledge of GD&T and tolerance analysis is preferred
Familiarity with machine shop tools and 3D printing for prototyping
Exceptional communication and documentation skills
Thrives in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment
Desire to continuously improve oneself and not happy with status quo
Education:
B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering with 0-2 years of relevant experience
