What you will do

The Energy Solutions Development Engineer Leader operates as a subject matter expert in a fast-paced, growth-oriented, national support team in Johnson Controls Building Solutions North America.  The Solution Development Engineer role requires a self-directed, internally motivated and operates with personal integrity with a strong foundation for utility, state and federal program development, project design, estimating, and scope development for within Living Spaces that include:  Public Housing, Affordable/Multifamily  Housing, Privatized Military Housing, County Facilities, Jails, Nursing Homes, Courthouses, Juvenile Detention Centers, Correctional Facilities, State VA Hospital with Retirement Homes, Assisted Living or Long-Term Care, Homeless Shelters, Senior Housing, and Higher Ed Dormitories

RESPONSIBILITY LEVEL:

Responsible within the Living Space Vertical Market related to developing and/or oversight for all program development, program incentives and applications, energy savings, project estimating, and project scope development, overall buildability, and customer expectations.  Strategizes and collaborates with the Sales and Engineering, within the area, to secure energy performance contracts are executed as presented to client, state and federal agencies. Develops and maintains Customer and Subcontractor relationships.

External Relationship:

The Living Spaces Energy Solutions Development Engineer II Leader is actively involved in the local contracting community, industry organizations, and networks with local subcontractors. Responsible for maintaining high customer satisfaction for projects during the execution phase.

Internal Relationships:

  • Works collaboratively with the area team to establish and maintain national market dominance.

  • Assists as required to effectively plan for future resource needs and assists in allocating resource needs to meet near term commitments.

  • Assesses development needs and works with the Area Engineering and Installation Managers to assign Construction Managers, as needed, to provide sales support activities early in the audit process to provide input on vendor/partners selection, scope enhancements, value engineering, risk assessment etc.

  • Assesses Project execution needs and works with the Area engineering and Installation Manager to assist in assignment of Construction Managers, as needed, to area projects.

  • Assists in ensuring Fiscal Year plans are met.

  • Assists the Vertical Market Director in the monthly financial reporting of the Living Spaces market.

How you will do it

PRIMARY DUTIES:

Self-performs sales support activities early in the audit process to provide input on vendor/partners selection, scope enhancements, value engineering, risk assessment etc. Understand residential multifamily market and support design related to energy efficiency and GHG reduction goals. Understands federal and state programs, project scope and customer expectations.  Utilizes resource planning techniques to gain high proactivity from team members.  Plans, schedules, and controls project development activities.  Broad knowledge of commercial/contractual complexity/deal structure/financial acumen/disciplines of supply chain…negotiation skills…communication skills…c-level relationships Established long term customer and contractor relationships.  Influences customer.  Ensures that Region develops and adhere to a Project Execution Plan for each assigned project. Determines when resources will be needed from the Area Engineering and Operational Team. Determines the duration Area Construction resources will be assigned to the area. Establishes customer touch points throughout the life cycle of projects to gain feedback on customer satisfaction. Coaches' teams on proactively addressing customer feedback. Provides leadership by demonstrating focus on exceeding customers' expectations. Effectively communicates the status of projects to Vertical Market Director as required execution. Fosters and maintains good working relationships with subcontractors. Fosters and maintains good working relationships with JCI internal Systems, Service and Lighting partners. Ensures compliance with state, local and federal legal requirements and ensures that Energy Solutions business is conducted with the highest ethical standards. Champions and drives the BSNA Safety Program for employees and subcontractors at all levels within the area Installation organization and subcontractors.

PRODUCTIVITY MEASURMENTS:

The Energy Solutions Development Engineer II Leader is responsible to program funding, state and federal approvals, constructability, customer satisfaction and project execution for the Living Spaces portfolio.

The following metrics define this responsibility:

  • Project Overall Buildability

  • Successful Delivery of Funding Programs

  • Mentoring of Regional Engineers

  • Maintain working relationship with State and Federal Offices

What we look for

Bachelor's degree in engineering or business or equivalent work experience. Six or more years of progressively more responsible Multifamily energy engineering experience in the Engineering Industry including four or more years of direct program management experience. General understanding of HVAC, and other mechanical systems and engineering.  Detailed knowledge and experience in project scope development, project risk assessment and overall project costing.  High-level competence in written and verbal communication. Strong presentation skills and proficiency in speaking to large audiences. Ability to lead, manage, mentor, and inspire others.  Knowledge of multiple levels with the supply chain org.  Polished presentation skills, multi-faceted thinker, innovator.  Strong ability to negotiate, persuade and influence.  Proficient in software scheduling tools, modeling software, and applications.  High level project management process competencies.  Strong proficiency in MS Office (excel, word, power point), Adobe Writer, Visio, MS Project, basic windows environment, and internet business application usage. Required to have direct working knowledge of one or more of the following markets: Affordable/Multifamily Housing and Public Housing, Privatized Military Housing, County Facilities, Jails, Nursing Homes, Courthouses, Juvenile Detention Centers, Correctional Facilities, State VA Hospital with Retirement Homes, Assisted Living or Long-Term Care, Homeless Shelters, Senior Housing Higher Ed Dormitories or similar markets.
