Job Summary:
The Senior Research Analyst is responsible for assisting Department of State (DOS) in its fraud prevention efforts at the pre-adjudication stage of consular processing. Analysts conduct research by consulting prescribed sources of information for facts relating to matters of interest to the program. The research efforts include consultation of public and private databases, government systems, as well as precedents from previous relative adjudications to assess information provided in immigrant and non-immigration visa petitions for potential fraud and derogatory information that would disqualify the applicants from receiving the visa benefit. At their discretion, Senior Research Analysts draft memorandum in accordance with DOS standards that summarize the information gathered and identified during their research. Such formats differ and must be applied at the analyst's discretion depending on the audience and that audience's defined standards. In order to properly adhere to such standards, Analysts must possess a working knowledge of the governing procedures applicable to their various audiences.
Responsibilities:
Senior Research Analysts coordinate and network with DOS personnel, other government agencies, and coworkers to facilitate information sharing on visa cases that involve fraud or potential criminal activity. Analysts review visa petitions being returned from Embassies/Consulates to identify trends that may be useful in future research. Identified trends from these case precedents are reviewed by the Analysts for utilization in creating or refining existing research methodologies. Senior Research Analysts handle the processing of cases being returned to Embassies, Consulates and USCIS from the KCC and NVC as well as overseas Posts to identify trends that may be useful in future research.
The Senior Research Analyst assists in the training and mentoring of new hires in the unit and will perform the first round of quality review on the Research Analyst as their mentor. The Senior Research Analysts may also schedule and oversee meetings and work distribution and acts as a lead in the supervisor's absence and as needed to ensure the mission of the program is met.
