Civil Engineer- Mid to Senior (Finance)

Responsibilities:

We are seeking a motivated and skilled Mid-Level Civil Engineer to join our team, focusing on stormwater management and infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will assist in the execution of local and municipal projects aimed at improving community resilience and environmental sustainability. This role requires a strong understanding of civil engineering principles, project management skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders. The key responsibilities of this position may include but are not limited to:

• Assisting in the design, analysis, and execution of stormwater management systems, including drainage, retention, and detention facilities, as well as related infrastructure projects.
• Collaborating with project managers, environmental engineers, and other stakeholders to develop project plans and specifications that meet regulatory requirements and community needs.
• Conducting site assessments and hydrological studies to evaluate project feasibility and compliance with local and state regulations.
• Preparing engineering calculations, reports, and documentation for stormwater and infrastructure projects, ensuring adherence to best practices and standards.
• Coordinating with local government agencies, environmental organizations, and community stakeholders to ensure project alignment with public interests and regulatory requirements.
• Reviewing and providing feedback on design drawings and plans submitted by contractors and consultants, focusing on stormwater management and infrastructure integrity.
• Monitoring project progress, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
• Participating in project meetings and communicating effectively with team members, clients, and stakeholders.
• Working on environmental protection projects, including waste management and pollution control.
• Contributing to site development projects, including grading, utilities, and landscaping for residential and commercial developments.
• Designing and managing municipal utilities, including water supply and wastewater treatment systems.
• Assessing flood risks and developing strategies for floodplain management and mitigation.
• Managing public works initiatives, such as parks and community centers.
• Implementing sustainability initiatives, including green infrastructure solutions.
• Overseeing construction projects to ensure compliance with specifications, budgets, and timelines.
• Ensuring regulatory compliance for municipal projects, including environmental and zoning laws.
• Engaging with community members and stakeholders to gather input on projects and promote public awareness of engineering initiatives.
• Developing and implementing asset management plans for municipal infrastructure.
• Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
• Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline, knowledge, and awareness.
• Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
• Additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field.
• Five (5) to eight (8) years of experience in civil engineering, with a focus on stormwater management and infrastructure projects preferred.
• Willingness and ability to travel as needed, approximately 25%.
• Proficiency in engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, HydroCAD) and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Familiarity with project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera) is a plus.
• Strong understanding of stormwater management principles, hydrology, and local regulations.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Virginia Professional Engineer (PE) license is required or must be obtainable within six months of hire.

This position requires the candidate to be a U.S. Citizen due to the projects they will be working on.

The mid-level civil engineer position may involve physical demands such as conducting site assessments that require walking over uneven terrain, standing, bending, kneeling, or crouching for extended periods. Candidates should be able to lift and carry equipment or materials (typically up to 50 pounds) and operate surveying equipment, which necessitates manual dexterity.

The position includes a combination of office and fieldwork. Candidates will work outdoors in various weather conditions and may need to travel to different project sites. Prolonged periods of sitting will be necessary while using computers to prepare reports and collaborate with team members. Adherence to safety protocols and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) is essential.

Language & Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for this role. The candidate must be able to clearly articulate technical concepts related to stormwater and infrastructure to non-technical stakeholders, prepare detailed reports, and effectively collaborate with team members and clients. Proficiency in the English language is required, and additional language skills may be beneficial.

Other Skills: Instructions: In addition to proficiency in engineering software and Microsoft Office, familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and data analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB) is advantageous. Knowledge of programming or scripting languages (e.g., Python, R) for data analysis or automation tasks can also be beneficial.
