Job Description
The Washington Post is looking for a design editor to join our award-winning design department.
Our designers are responsible for the presentation of some of The Post's most ambitious stories across a wide array of digital and print products. They are expected to push the boundaries of visual storytelling to provide readers with riveting, highly informative experiences.
Likewise, our talented design editors are adept at developing, managing and mentoring our staff, fostering collaboration on projects throughout the newsroom and responding quickly when news breaks. We're placing a premium on finding an editor who can continue to push our digital growth through feedback and hands-on work. The ideal candidate must have strong design and development skills, plus a proven ability to build impactful and inspiring digital presentations.
Our editors are also expected to make sure the department is continually adapting and seeking new opportunities for growth. Notwithstanding our current remote working situation, the position is based in the Washington newsroom and requires night and occasional weekend work.
Those interested should upload a resume, cover letter on how they can help improve the department as well as a portfolio highlighting three projects (please package your portfolio in a PDF with a screenshot, explanation and a link so we can ensure that the work is viewable by all who need to see it) to our jobs portal by July 17. All of your application materials can be uploaded to the same field. The cover letter should be addressed to Greg Manifold, Tracy Grant and Carla Broyles.
