Summary/Objectives
Zygo's World-class Instruments are a combination of Mechanical, Electrical and Optical Components. The Instruments Manufacturing Engineer position requires a working knowledge of mechanical and optical assembly and tests. Mechanical, Electrical and Optical design is not a job requirement but a PLUS. Understanding component & assembly prints is required. The manufacturing engineer will be responsible for developing manufacturing assembly processes, alignment processes & test processes for Zygo Instruments while working collaboratively with the Engineering team.

1. Communicate with Engineering while new projects are in the design phase and identify changes in part design that will improve manufacturability
2. Develop & sustain manufacturing processes using manufacturing equipment, custom fixturing and manual methods
3. Write detailed assembly & test procedures & train production technicians
4. Analyze production & field failures and provide Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA)
5. Analyze component failures and recommend corrective actions
6. Develop screening tests for components and assembly's
7. Help improve production rates, efficiencies, yields and costs
8. Provide efficient response to troubleshoot day-to-day process & equipment issues
9. Specify and/or develop new equipment and tooling requirements
10. Support Process FMEA
Position Requirements:
4 Year Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering OR Materials Engineering OR Optical Engineering
Required Competencies
1. Intermediate knowledge of Mechanical, Materials & Optical Design
2. Experience in mechanical, optical & opto-mechanical assembly process development
3. Experience in small optics assembly
4. Working knowledge of Best-in-class Assembly practices
5. Working knowledge of Component & Assembly Test Methodologies
6. Ability to conduct Root Cause & Corrective Action for failed components and assembly's
7. Ability to read blueprints
8. Ability to use mechanical solid modelling software SOLIDWORKS to review drawings & assembly's
9. Ability to design mechanical fixtures and tools to support production assembly and tests
10. Ability to write detailed assembly and test procedures using Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
11. Excellent Verbal & Written Skills
12. Excellent and Timely Communication Skills
