Ashland has an exciting opportunity for a Quality Specialist to join our Pharmachem business at our Ogden, Utah location. This is a very visible, significant role within the Company and the Quality function. This position will report to the Quality Manager.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

The Quality Specialist develops and implements Quality Assurance, Quality Control, and Food Safety practices and procedures in support of established production standards and company business objectives. Investigates quality incidents and assists with root cause analyses. Professional/single contributor role within a manufacturing environment.

  • Designs, institutes, and documents quality assurance and food safety programs in conjunction with QA leadership.
  • Advises and consults with management on continuous improvement and quality/safety related issues (may include environmental related issues).Provides training and coaching on GMP, QA, and food safety programs and procedures.
  • Conducting internal audits & quality risk assessments; Support and participate in audit preparations and inspections by certifying agencies and regulatory bodies
  • Investigate customer complaints and nonconforming product issues and implement appropriate and effective corrective and preventive measure(s).
  • Coordinates activities with other departments and outside functions to support GMP, QA, and food safety programs, certifications, and procedures.

In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:

  • B.S. Degree in Chemistry, Food Science, or a related discipline, or a combination of education and relevant work experience.
  • Expert knowledge and understanding in Quality Management Systems related to Nutraceutical and dietary supplements; knowledge of regulatory and GXP compliance requirements such as 21 CFR Part 111, Part 117, HACCP and HARPC (Minimum 3 years).
  • Passionate self-starter with realistic and practical approach to GMP, QA, and Food Safety execution
  • Must have excellent communication and organizational skills; be able to communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong personal computer skills including experience with specification management systems, inventory management systems, training systems, and Microsoft programs.

The following skill sets are preferred by the business unit:

  • Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) certification is a plus.
  • Familiarity with laboratory (analytical and microbiology) instrumentation is a plus.
