Lab Technician 3 (R&D)
JOB SUMMARY
Lab Technician 3 performs non-routine and routine chemical and physical analysis and tests required for quality control, and research and development purposes for the evaluation of raw ingredients, products, and processes. Assists in compiling, analyzing and interpreting results.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Experienced individual contributor and team member
Works with minimum supervision
Assignments are broad in nature and include special projects (interdepartmental and inter-winery).
Has appreciable latitude for unreviewed action, decision, creativity.
Superior analytical and microbiological skills.
Duties include performing analysis, writing, and establishing specifications, assisting in the validation of assays, keeping lab documentation up to date (End of the Month)
Assist Cutler facility (lab, cellar, bottling) with trouble shooting and root cause analysis for quality related concerns. Develop quality response plans and corrective actions as appropriate with supervision.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
May assist in the development and training of Technicians.
Selects and prepares chemical solutions used in the laboratory.
Looks for trends in data, recognizes unexpected deviations, performs minor troubleshooting, and alerts Manager. Makes valid conclusions and recommends next steps in routine situations.
May assume duties of Manager in his/her absence.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field, and/or 2 – 7 years of relevant experience.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Computer skills including basic MS Word and Excel.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
Must possess strong verbal, written, analytical and interpersonal skills.
Must be able to work rotating shifts and overtime.
Must possess strong skills in the following areas: functional/technical skills, action oriented/sense of urgency, customer focus, drive for results, time management, continuous improvement, and self-development.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, standing, and twisting in a laboratory or production environment.
