The Business Strategy Manager (BSM) is accountable for helping to shape, develop and deploy the overall business strategy. The BSM will work closely with market segment and product line leadership to integrate the respective segment/product strategies into an actionable plan that drives attainment of the business' long-range goals and objectives. With a heavy focus on organic growth, this role will be responsible for owning and driving continuous business process improvement in the areas of innovation and new product development (portfolio management). From an inorganic growth perspective, the BSM will be the lead in developing strategies and identifying potential targets that allow EMS to enter, or penetrate deeper, into new application or market spaces.
In this role, the employee will work closely with colleagues and counterparts in marketing, product management, R&D, the Innovation Center (IC) as well as within AES to ensure that best practices are leveraged across the various functions and businesses. This includes possessing the interpersonal skills and organizational intuition to successfully interface at multiple levels within the organization.
Business Strategy Development
Working across all functions within the business to effectively evolve the annual business strategy process (STRAP) into a continuous development and deployment cadence with associated check-steps and progress milestones.
Responsible for interfacing with market segment, product line, and technology leaders as they develop their associated strategies and will be responsible for aggregating and coordinating the input into the business' committed financial growth forecast.
Translates market, product, and technology roadmaps into a coherent and actionable strategic direction.
Working closely with marketing, product management and technology teams, the BSM is responsible for the development of new growth strategies that are enabled by inorganic means (collaboration, partnerships, M&A, etc.) that allow entrance or deeper penetration into new application spaces or market areas.
The BSM will have the ability to quickly grasp the value creation thesis of the organization and subsequently drive inorganic growth strategies that contribute to the desired strategic outcomes.
Once strategies are approved the BSM will lead in the identification of potential targets, as well as be a key member in the interface with external parties (companies, consultants, bankers) throughout any potential vetting and engagement proceedings.
Innovation Process and Portfolio Management
Collaborates with marketing and R&D leadership to drive improvement in the areas of innovation and new product development processes, and ensures procedure, process, and tool integrity.
Leads the business' stage-gate process for new product development and serves as the liaison between management and project leaders concerning resources and project prioritization.
Becomes the subject matter expert (SME) for the product development process (PDP) and is the voice of the business for corporate level alignment.
BS Engineering/Science or BS Business/Marketing
senior level experience with strategy development
supervisory experience with direct reports and indirect reports in a matrix organization
high degree of technical aptitude proven through technical product knowledge and experience
over 7 years industrial B2B marketing experience (or combination of marketing, R&D, and technical sales experience) and leading cross functional teams (either directly or by influence)
over 5 years' experience in strategy or marketing leadership
MBA or comparable
innovation process and/or portfolio management experience
market / competitive intelligence experience
team building experience
market research experience
