Flint Hills Resources (FHR) is looking for a Strategic Projects Instrument and Controls Engineer to provide the leadership and discipline engineering support to face the challenges of the unprecedented changes that are happening in today's business environment. In the Strategic Projects Instrument and Controls Engineer role, you will be a leader in helping FHR advance to our Vision and grow our capability to create further value to society through project execution for one or more capital projects ($10MM – 200MM TIC).

The desired candidate will not only have the technical competencies in instrument and controls engineering but have the passion and the capabilities to lead transformation within the FHR projects organization and engineering community.
A Day In The Life Typically Includes:
Working closely with other Project Team members and engineering contractors to help the Project Manager develop the scope, design and technical specifications for the instrument and controls components of capital projects from $10MM to $200MM in total installed scope. Expected to provide detailed review and approval of the deliverables from engineering contractor to support the engineering and procurement effort. This will require active involvement with the engineering contractor to provide owner's engineering support to specific engineering development questions, follow up on such as SmartPlant Instrumentation setup and access, instrument index development, P&ID and control strategies review, HAZOP, model review, vendor/fabricator design, etc. issues and questions that come up during the engineering design phases of a project.
Provide technical input to procurement and construction quality plan development and support, individually or with QA Lead, for key witness inspections of Factory Acceptance Testing and site-based Logic Acceptance Testing. This expectation extends to skid or modular equipment with installed controls and instrumentation at the fabricator. Key responsibility to provide input into commissioning planning, oversight to instrumented system testing procedures and execution oversight for mechanical integrity assurance for pre-start up safety review sign off.

This role is subject to the Transportation Workers Identification Credentialing rule or “TWIC” and requires the successful candidate to obtain a TWIC identification badge, allowing for unescorted access to the facility within a specific time period.
