What the Multimedia Graphic Designer does
As AGU continues to expand the meetings program, builds a robust digital presence and with the continuation of AGU's publications being a leading voice in Earth and space science, it is critical that the organization's creative efforts support in-house multimedia production.
The Multimedia Graphics Designer conceptualizes, designs, executes, and effectively communicates the strategic intent for high-quality creative solutions that consistently and clearly communicate AGU's brand identity and values while continuously finding ways to elevate visuals to the next level. The incumbent will manage a large body of work, including creating innovative motion graphics, animations, illustrations, digital media and various designs to support AGU's multiple brands, events, initiatives and the award-winning Eos magazine.
Reporting to the Assistant Director, Design & Branding, the Multimedia Graphics Designer will support the communications, media and marketing department through the ideation and creation of various designs, with a strong focus on motion and animation graphics.
* Creates highly engaging designs, animations, videos and other visual assets for marketing materials, events, web properties, social media and publications to support AGU's goals.
* Works collaboratively and openly with the communications, media and marketing teams on creative projects, ensuring that all work meets programmatic goals while following AGU's brand standards.
* Makes recommendations for motion graphic opportunities to enhance creative solutions.
* Converts, edits or formats videos and add effects /visual elements to enhance video projects.
* Researches and secures appropriate imagery, videos and other graphic elements to enhance creative projects and complement messaging and content.
* Presents creative work at various stages for review, feedback and approval.
* Maintains and safeguards the integrity of AGU's brand identity across the organization.
* Ensures creative assets and files are organized and catalogued in a timely manner.
* Keeps abreast of latest trends and applications in design, motion and video technologies.
* Other duties as assigned.
What the Multimedia Graphic Designer brings to the team
* Bachelor's degree in graphic design or related discipline with up to 3 years of experience in branding, print and digital design, working within an in-house creative department or other creative team environment.
* Experience in a media, publishing, in-house creative, or design agency strongly preferred.
* Strong design portfolio demonstrating range of experience or link to online work must be included with application.
* Demonstrated ability to convey complex ideas through design, motion graphics and video deliverables to support the achievement of key marketing and communications goals.
* Must be able to create and successfully communicate compelling ideation elements such as storyboards, style frames and mood boards.
* Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate and interact easily and effectively with staff, AGU leaders, freelancers, vendors, scientists and researchers.
* Ability to manage multiple complex projects at the same time on a tight deadline.
* Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail a must.
* Strong verbal and written communications skills, as well as solid presentation and listening skills.
* Solution-oriented and passionate about visual communication.
* Takes direction well and can excel in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment.
* Confidence and motivation to operate independently also a must.
* Demonstrated high proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, including After Effects, Premiere, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat, as well as the Microsoft suite of products.
* Must provide a portfolio of work that demonstrates both motion and graphic design capabilities.
