Work with a team to create a safe and fun environment for campers ranging in ages from 5 years to 13 years!This is a seasonal position Mid June through August, Mon-Fri up to 40 hoursYoull also be able to make the most of your Complementary Membership Position summary: Provide curriculum and instruction to campers in a specific program area that insures safety, age-appropriate activities and opportunities for skill progression and personal development. Implement and maintain a high quality, well-rounded, fun-filled program based on the YMCA core values of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility. Reports to: YMCA Camp Director Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Design written age-appropriate activity curriculum for campers in assigned program area. Implement program curriculum on a daily basis, offering opportunities for skill progression as well as personal development of campers. Ensure that all activities in assigned program area are safe and that the physical location of the activity is free from environmental hazards. Maintain the program area and equipment in good working condition. If repairs or replacement equipment is needed, timely communication with the supervisor is required. Ensure and promote the health and safety of all children through proactive measures including role modeling. This may include the use of sunscreen, active hydration, avoidance of environmental hazards. Complete all assigned paperwork in a timely and accurate manner. This may include accident reports, incident reports, time cards, inventory, evaluations, etc. Provide activities for campers that are appropriate in case of inclement weather (i.e. excessive heat or rain) Maintain good public relations with parents. Understand that you represent the YMCA and maintain a positive disposition, demeanor and attire. Attempt to answer parent concerns or make appropriate referrals to the unit director. Set and maintain limits for children using positive reinforcement Treat children with dignity and respect. Recognize their individuality and diversity. Maintain a healthy and safe environment through regular maintenance and cleaning of the facilities. Assist in maintaining the necessary records involving attendance and sign-in and sign-out sheets. When releasing child(ren), ensure that the proper release procedures are followed and appropriate identification is shown. Report concerns of parents or of children to direct supervisor. Arrive prepared for the scheduled shift, prepared for constant concentration and visual surveillance of program participants with no distractions. Responsible for attending staff meetings and events as necessary. Actively participate in pre-camp training. Demonstrate and teach the Character Development values of caring, respect, responsibility and honesty. Work in harmony and cooperation with the staff, volunteers and members of the YMCA to develop team spirit and family atmosphere. Education & Experience: High School (GED) preferred Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Certificates, License & Certifications:(not required to apply) First Aid and CPR certification Child Abuse Prevention All certifications must be renewed in a timely manner in accordance with general YMCA policies and based on American Camp Association standards.
