Special Operations Nurse Consultant (Healthcare)



Nature and scope
The Special Operations Nurse Consultant (SONC) position will lead, deliver, provide and assist with developing training for clinical care staff, fill in as the interim Clinical Nurse Consultant and collaborate directly with the Clinical Compliance Director for any other needed RN task. SONC will provide excellent service quality, providing support, guidance and teaching for clinical care staff, clinical nursing consultants, and administrative staff following regulatory requirements and appropriate timeframes.

Minimum eligibility requirements
Registered Nurse with current North Carolina State Licensing Authority in good standing with the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
Experience of 1-3 years or more in the care of senior adults and adults with cognitive decline is preferred.
Ability to teach and train employees.
Computer proficiency with EMAR (electronic medical record), LMS (learning management system) and email
Knowledge and capability to use MatrixCare EMAR effectively
Knowledge of Rules 10A NCAC 13F for Adult Care Homes.
Must have compassion for and desire to work with the elderly.
Must be honest, fair, dependable, respect confidentiality and the rights and privacy of others. Must have exceptional organizational skills and ability to re-prioritize daily tasks.Ability to read, write and speak English.
Must have strong documentation skills.
Must pass criminal background check.
Must meet all health requirements.
Must have valid drivers license.
Must be able to perform duties and responsibilities (essential job functions), with or without reasonable accommodation.

Essential functions
Clinical
Ensure sound infection control practices are in place that promotes a healthy environment and ensure the safety of residents, visitors and staff regarding infection control, fire and safety policies and procedures. Complete CDC Infection Preventionist training and receive certification within 90 days of hireConduct resident assessments and person-centered care and service plan development within 30 days of admission, 30 days from a change in condition, followed by no less than quarterly thereafter.Assess for changes in resident conditions based on quarterly assessments and or significant changes to ensure timely evaluation, monitoring, and documentation in assisting the facility to providing resident care.Perform medication pass observations in conjunction with regulatory and community compliance requirements.Conduct Licensed Health Professional Support (LHPS) skills evaluations to ensure competency of personal care staff as required by regulations.Administer and read the two-step tuberculin skin testing as required. (Must have doctors order for both staff and residents to administer.) Coordinate and facilitate training and support to new or existing care leaders.Provide state required trainings such as Infection Control to ensure ongoing compliance for all communities supported.Provide ongoing oversight and certification for medication aide training including medication aide skills check-off to meet state regulatory requirements and review of additional 5-hour and 10-hour medication training with sign off certification and review.Monitor staff completion and review of E-learning online medication aide, Diabetic training to include finger stick blood sugar monitoring administration of insulin (prior to administering insulin as per regulations, Coumadin, and 3-hour State required infection control trainings with certification prior to providing skills checkoffs for staff.Provide other training/in-services to medication aide and personal care staff relevant to resident care, including CPR.Maintain all privacy rules and regulations pertaining to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).Other duties assigned by Clinical Compliance Director within scope of practice.

Quality Assurance
Serve as a support member of the QA Committee and ensure monthly QA audits are completed thoroughly and honestly. Conduct routine inspections of services being provided to ensure the highest quality and provide reports as requested

Compliance
Deliver and Provide guidance or training for to assure regulatory complianceMaintain knowledge of state regulations and ensure compliance with surveys and other regulatory agencies.

Resident Care
Support resident care, programming and provide recommendations for improvement.Actively research, develop and make recommendations on appropriate niche programming that reflects and meets the needs of residents and families.

Community Staffing and Retention
Promote a harmonious working relationship and partner with each assigned community to increase employee retention.Ensure training and support services are provided in a timely manner.Support and promote employee morale, maintaining a high level of team spirit and unit cohesion. Ensure compliance with employment laws and company policies. Works with team to reduce turnover.

Supervisory Functions
SONC will provide clinical knowledge and support, guidance, education, and direction in coordination with Clinical Compliance Director
