Oncology Billing & Coding | Memorial Hospital (Finance)
JOB SUMMARY
Reports to the Manager, Infusion Center and works under the direction of Executive Director and Medical Director. Works in a collaborative relationship with the Infusion Center Manager, Medical Oncology Practice Manager, Medical Records and Patient Accounts. Obtains prior authorizations for medical oncology treatments, ensures accurate medical necessity documentation, audits for correct infusion billing/documentation, follows through on insurance denials or claim errors to procure payment. Serves as an onsite coding and billing resource for Oncology associates and physicians.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a high school diploma. Coursework in medical terminology, coding and billing and/or two years of billing/coding experience in an inpatient or outpatient health care setting is required.
Knowledge & Skills
Requires knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and chemotherapy treatments.
Demonstrates specific knowledge of various third-party payer practices and procedures and CPT and ICD-10-CM coding in order to ensure that billings are accurately completed and in the proper format for efficient processing and payment.
Requires analytical skills to compile and process patient information abstracted from patient records.
Requires knowledge of accounting procedures, computer programs specific to the department and spreadsheet software.
Requires the ability to handle diverse work functions and multi-task projects with a variety of billing and coding issues.
Demonstrates well developed interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, necessary to interact effectively with a diverse group of people and compose written communications using correct spelling, grammar, and format.
Working Conditions
Works in an office environment.
May experience some mental/visual fatigue from careful and constant review of records, code books and continued use of computer equipment.
Physical Demands
Requires the physical ability and stamina to perform the essential duties of the position.
