Summary:

As a member of the R&D cybersecurity team, establishes and manages a program and team around incident response and vulnerability management. May specify, evaluate, or recommend policies that pertain to incident response, vulnerability management, and product engineering. Interacts with platform, apps, firmware, and web R&D partners to enable them to have success in vulnerability management and incident response. Interacts with vendors to drive success. Capable of leading a team or teams in incident management, providing leadership in incident management and vulnerability response.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate, design, and recommend security controls around platform
  • Support and take leadership of anything related to incident response or vulnerability management
  • Engage other stakeholders as they respond to incidents or signals
  • Establish a mature incident response and vulnerability management program
  • Work with outside vendors that support work
  • Serve as a security SME and provide guidance and technical leadership to other staff members
  • Prioritize work according to a risk-based framework
  • Establish and grow collaborations both inside and outside of the R&D organization
  • Support compliance/certification activities and participate in security audits/reviews
  • Keep abreast of and provide recommendations on emerging security technologies/tools

Required Qualifications:

  • Has experience in handling a team in incident response
  • Confident in addressing data platform, web, mobile app, and firmware security issues as they relate to incident response and vulnerability management
  • Ability to adapt and execute in a changing environment
  • Strong background in security

Preferred Qualifications:

  • IoT experience
  • Applied cryptography experience
  • Mobile app security experience
  • Firmware security experience

Functional Description: Management

Manages the product security team responsible for the development and implementation of security specifications for new products (including systems, applications and/or other solutions) and enhancements to existing products. Determines the technical guidelines and features of the security architecture framework in product development. Identifies areas of security risk and makes recommendations to reduce those risks. Directs the activities of the cybersecurity function across product engineering groups. Evaluates product security strategies and requirements, identifies integration issues and prepares cost estimates. Oversees the analysis of product security engineering tasks and prepares security specifications and recommendations. Works with project managers, marketing, sales, and users to define product security requirements and identify necessary modifications. Selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

  • Provides guidance to team members / supporting employees using established company policies.
  • Frequently interacts with subordinate supervisors, customers, and/or functional peer group managers, normally involving matters between functional areas, other company divisions or units, or customers and the company.

Judgement:

  • Works on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors.
  • Follows processes and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
  • Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve results will add to costs and may impact the short-term goals of the organization.

Management:

  • Manages the coordination of department/functional activities with responsibility for results, methods and staffing.
  • In some instances may be responsible for a functional area or contracted / outsourced employees or matrixed reports.
  • People management responsibilities include hiring / terminations, performance reviews, career development coaching and compensation decisions.

Experience and Education Requirements:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree with 8-12 years of industry experience.
  • 2-5 years of previous management or lead experience.
