Heavy Equipment Technician Intern (Maintenance)
The Sherwood Companies have a proven track record of completing a variety of projects from General Construction, to Construction Management and Design Build Projects for both public and private owners. A brief summary of the types of projects include, urban expressways, bridges, underground utilities, dam construction, asphalt/concrete paving and water/wastewater treatment plants.
JOB DESCRIPTION
For up to 12 weeks, this paid Intern position is designed for current Diesel Technology students interested in pursuing a career as a Heavy Equipment Technician. The incumbent will shadow mentors that demonstrate expert knowledge as a Shop, Field or Lube Technician, and the curriculum will be based upon Technician availability and/or the incumbent's areas of interest. The Intern will apply their current technical skill as well as broaden their knowledge base with real world experience, and this internship opportunity is open to students of all skill levels. Travel may be required.ACTIVITIES/TASKS/SCOPE
· Keep work area clean, orderly and safe
· Help provide routine maintenance of equipment
· Assist with assembly, set up, adjustment and/or repair of all types of construction equipment and parts
· Learn to operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects
· Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints and technical drawings
· Aid in dismantling and reassembling heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools
· Collaborate with the Technician to adjust, maintain and repair or replace subassemblies; such as engines, transmissions and other components using hand tools, jacks and cranes
· Examine parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges
· Perform scheduled maintenance for construction equipment and maintain service records
· Document work in process, as well as completed work
· Provide assistance with adjusting and maintaining construction equipment, trucks and machinery
· Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles
· Operate in a safe and efficient manner following all personal protective equipment (PPE) and process requirements
· Ability to maintain a positive attitude and work in a team setting

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
· Current High School Senior in Diesel Technical School; OR
· High School Diploma or GED and current enrollment in Diesel Technical School
· Must be 18 years or older and have a valid driver's license
