Manager, Global Expansion Leader - Commercialization Excellence (Finance)
Position Summary:
The Manager Global Expansion is a leader within the Commercialization Excellence team, and is the overall global process owner for market entry, ensuring Illumina can sell and support our portfolio of products into both domestic and international markets. This role engages with cross-functional business partners at both the global and regional level to define best-practice market entry guidelines with clear roles & responsibilities that foster collaboration and successful execution. Market entry best practices cover projects ranging from new product introductions, IVD market expansions, expanding commercial reach into new geographies, new channel setups & transitions, as well as tech transfers and other types of partnerships.
The Global Expansion Leader is the nexus for prioritized market entry efforts from each region, providing stakeholder functions with pipeline visibility & progress, and partnering with regions to define a clear path for project delivery based on scope, resource, and budget requirements. This person is accountable for coordinating matrixed teams, and developing comprehensive process documentation, training, and organizational change management focused on advancing market entry capabilities and understanding. The Sr Project Manager, Global Expansion, reports directly to this role and has dotted line partnerships with product development & regional project management functions.
This role is an exciting opportunity to infuse market entry best practices into a breadth of product commercialization and global expansion efforts, and deliver scalable cross-functional best practices to streamline the way portfolio and project strategies are executed.
The Commercialization Excellence team within Illumina's Commercial Strategy & Enablement organization is responsible for execution and stewardship of Illumina's Product Commercialization Process (PCP). The commercialization process covers best practice activities and checkpoints for delivering Illumina's product portfolio tied to both the Product Development Process & Partnership Center of Excellence. The commercialization process extends from market segment & product portfolio strategic planning through product commercialization to on-market product management & portfolio rationalization.
Responsibilities and Expectations:
Understand company objectives to identify, scope, develop and implement market entry process improvements with minimal guidance
Resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways by engaging cross-functional business partners and leading teams to address
Able to meet deadlines and work under pressure, with general support and direction from senior leadership
Exhibit a deep knowledge of new product introduction (NPI), go-to-market business process best-practices, and program management fundamentals
Partner with Marketing, Commercial, Development, Operations, Business Development, Legal, Finance, Regulatory, and Clinical Affairs to develop processes focused on market entry excellence; may also manage specific market entry projects based on need
Leads market entry governance, providing a forum to address decision-making, enable portfolio visibility, and conduct phase-gate project reviews
Leverage digital collaboration tools (Confluence, Jira, Tableau) to manage process improvement projects and to steward process with project teams & functions – advocate organizationally for both tools and process as best practice
Effectively manage direct and matrixed reports by setting clear priorities and creating a positive environment that fosters employee growth and development
Experience and Skills:
10+ years of professional experience with 8+ years of professional experience in Commercial Operations, Product Management, or Commercialization Program Management roles directly supporting new product introduction and on-market products; direct management experience is desirable
Diverse role background with other roles in either Product Development, Supply Chain, IT, Finance, or Business Development is a plus
Understands best-in-class go-to-market and product commercialization processes, including logistics and regulations involved with market entry
Proven track record for leading teams and delivering cross-functional business process improvements
Experience with Atlassian Tools (Confluence, Jira) for project management and Tableau for visualization is desirable
Strong written and verbal communicator, including presentation skills; ability to position initiatives, decisions, and outcomes to diverse audiences
Excellent project planning and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple cross-functional projects simultaneously
Experience with program management and associated methodologies, PMP certification is a plus
Proven ability to build relationships based on trust and confidence with key stakeholders
Proficiency in working in a fast-paced, complex, dynamic, multicultural business environment
Education:
BA/BS in Marketing, Operations, Science, Engineering, or Business is required. MBA preferred.
