EHR Support Systems Fiscal Specialist I (278) (Information Technology)

EHR Support Systems Fiscal Specialist I (278)
Remote 100% to CA Residents Only

Under limited supervision run a major computerized Electronic Health Records application for high volume billing with restricted deadlines.

How will I contribute

Responsible for End of Month and Supplemental billing processes for Mental Health Medi-Cal, Drug Medi-Cal, Minor Consent, Medicare, Private Insurance and Private Pay/Client billing for multiple counties within the EHR.
Provide Help Desk support to end-users for healthcare-related billing questions, payments, and claims.
Analyze billing data and collaborate with counties to develop and implement plans of correction, following up as needed.
Research billing issues, applying sound judgment and escalating unresolved issues, when necessary, with limited communication with Medi-Cal and Medicare regarding electronic file submissions and payments.
Troubleshoot rejected 837 Professional and Institutional electronic claim files, resolving errors to resubmit claims.
Process 835 files, including manual application of payments, rebilling/replacements/voids, and adjusting remaining balances as needed.
Research and resolve denied claims, using healthcare billing guidelines to process claim rebills, replacements, and voids.
Maintain accurate and timely billing logs, create work orders for assigned tasks, and run specialized reports for revenue and client billing data.
Assist with special projects resulting from unexpected system, state, or EHR changes.
Contributes to the development and refinement of billing process procedures.
Collaborates with team members and perform other duties as assigned to support the overall functioning and success of the department.

What I bring

Associate degree in EHR, revenue cycle, information systems, healthcare, or a related field
Class C Driving Requirements
1 year experience in healthcare billing or accounts receivable, particularly in working with electronic health record (EHR) systems. Associate's degree in EHR, revenue cycle, information systems, healthcare, or a related field; or comparable quantitative field or equivalent related work experience.
Basic understanding of billing practices, particularly in healthcare and government insurance programs (e.g., Medi-Cal, Medicare). Knowledge of healthcare billing practices, including familiarity with Medi-Cal, Medicare, and private insurance processes.
Proficient writing skills, 10 key by touch, analytical and problem solving skills. Ability to communicate clearly with staff end-users to help resolve various problems. Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Ability to function and complete tasks in a remote team environment.
Basic understanding and demonstrated ability in computer operations and concepts. Basic knowledge of principles, theories and concepts of accounting. Basic knowledge of office medical/clinical records operations. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve electronic file submission problems. Detail-oriented, organized, and reliable, with the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently. Good communication skills, both written and verbal, are necessary for working with internal teams and external partners. The role also requires adaptability, the ability to work independently, and a strong sense of professionalism when dealing with sensitive healthcare information.
A strong understanding of EHR systems and the ability to process electronic claims (837 and 835 files). Knowledge of billing codes, claim submissions, denials, and resolutions, along with the ability to analyze billing data and assist in the correction of discrepancies.
