Classroom Assistant (Education)
General Statement: The Fleet Science Centers Science Educator supports the Fleet Mission Statement and Visitor Experience Philosophy by supporting educational programming designed for school groups and public audiences. This position will assist in providing hands-on, inquiry based educational programming and provide support for onsite programming to ensure their success.
Reports to: Education Manager
Primary Duties and Responsibilities, including mental requirements of position:
1. Provide exemplary customer service, and handle questions, comments and/or complaints regarding education programs and events professionally and tactfully.
2. Maintain timekeeping accuracy and meet timekeeping deadlines as established by department and the Fleet.
3. Preparation, set-up and clean-up of class supplies, equipment and classrooms.
4. Create a positive and welcoming environment for classers and their families.
5. Assist at drop-off, pick-up and lunch times.
6. Inspire classes in a positive and engaging manner.
7. Represent oneself and the Museum in a professional, respectful, and courteous manner.
8. Ensure the highest level of safety both physically and emotionally.
9. Follow Museum policy and procedure.
10. Opportunities to teach and lead lessons and activities.
11. Other duties as assigned by Educator or Education Coordinator. Position reports to Youth Engagment Manager and School Programs Manager.

Tools and equipment used to perform this position: computers, printers, fax machines, copy machines, basic classroom equipment, outreach equipment, SmartBoards, and scientific equipment.
Experience, education, or skills required of the incumbent in this position:
· Must have full availability, Monday Friday from 8:00 am to 5pm
· Some college education required, bachelors degree in education or science preferred.
· Valid CA driver license.
· Experience teaching/leading school-aged children in hands-on science activities strongly preferred.
· Youth supervisory experience required.
· Applicable science content knowledge required.
· Museum experience is a plus.
· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
· Ability to communicate in front of a large group and direct a large group of students and/or adults.
· Ability to handle multiple functions.
Supervision, direction, or guidance provided for this position: Performs duties with supervision of Education Manager but can function in classroom or in schools independently.
Physical Requirements of this Position:
Light Work: Position involves sitting, standing, and/or walking. Position requires ability to frequently exert up to 10 pounds of force to move objects and occasionally exert up to 20 pounds of force to move objects.
