Registered Nurse III-MC/CHC - New to Specialty - Adult Critical Care Unit (ACCU) (Finance)
Position Requirements Upon Hire:
The Adult ICU is composed of two physical units; a 24-Medical Intensive Care and a 12 bed Surgical Intensive Care Unit dedicated to the trauma, medical, and surgical needs of the critically ill adult and elderly patients. A multi-disciplinary team approach is utilized to provide optimal care for our diverse population.
The New to Specialty nurse cohort is designed to incorporate critical judgement, professional conduct, and weekly didactics to integrate the necessary skills and critical thinking required to become an Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse. The program is 14-weeks with focus on the New to Specialty RN mastering critical skills. Upon graduation, the RN will be able to function at a competent level within our Adult Critical Care Unit.

Riverside University Health System - Medical Center is a Level I trauma center, the Adult ICU nurses are supported by the trauma/surgical, medical, and neurosurgery services. The staff receives training and education in the management of unstable patients, modes of pharmacological treatment, utilizing mechanical ventilation, invasive hemodynamic monitoring, intracranial pressure monitoring, continuous EEG, CRRT, IAPB, and other modalities. The nurses experience broad preparation in caring for a wide variety of illnesses, i.e. GI bleed, sepsis, myocardial infarction, arrhythmia, unstable angina, cardiogenic and septic shock, hypertensive crisis, decompensated cardiomyopathy, congestive heart failure, renal failure, DKA, and respiratory failure. In addition, extensive teaching is provided about various patient populations including adult trauma, neurosurgery, vascular, abdominal, ENT, gynecological, and general surgeries. The organization offers multiple simulation educational opportunities including but not limited to stroke, sepsis, trauma, resuscitation on a monthly basis.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Assess, plan, organize, and provide nursing care to assigned patients in accordance with physician instructions; make preliminary observations of patients and prepare patients for medical treatment.
Assist physicians in administering treatments and in performing medical examinations, diagnostic tests and surgical operations.
Administer prescribed treatment and medications, including dispensing, as ordered to patients; chart treatment of patients; record and report significant changes in condition and general progress of patients.
Counsel and advise patients, families and significant others regarding special medical problems and/or proper healthcare methods.
Prepare and maintain concise and complete records and reports; instruct patients in carrying out physician's orders; transcribe physician's orders to working records.
Provide orientation and training to new staff, residents, medical students, Regional Occupational Program (ROP) participants and nursing students.
Participate in quality assurance reviews; act as a team leader or relief charge nurse.
Assign and monitor, the work of subordinate nursing personnel; participate in committee activities; identify staff training needs.
Triage patients by reviewing admission charts and merging patients into the appropriate patient assignment or clinic flow when appropriate.
Testify in court as to client's mental and physical condition.
Coordinate and monitor patients through the hospitalization process utilizing physicians, primary care nurses and third-party payors to maintain quality care and fiscal responsibility.
Review the post hospital care plan with the patient,/family establishing a contact regarding timeframes and responsibilities; follow care plan through patient discharge.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Registered Nurse III - MC/CHC:
Education: Successful completion of the education required to obtain a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
Experience: Three (3) years of experience working as a Registered Nurse in an Adult Intensive Care Unit (ICU) within an acute care hospital setting. (A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in nursing or national certification in a nursing specialty may be considered as a substitution for one year of the required experience. A master's degree from an accredited college or university in nursing may be considered as a substitution for two years of the required experience.)
License: Must possess and maintain a current valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California or valid out of state license with authorization to work in California.
Certificate:
Ability to: Perform the full range of nursing duties and responsibilities in a patient care setting; plan and organize nursing plans for patients; prepare and maintain concise and complete records and reports; establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, patients and co-workers; secure the cooperation of employees to work effectively together; assist in the instruction of entry-level nurses and ancillary personnel; keep abreast of developments in area of nursing specialization; evaluate the medical records of hospital admissions; provide recommendations regarding continued stay necessity; identify discharge needs.

DEFERRED COMPENSATION: Voluntary employee contribution with a choice between two 457 deferred compensation plan options.
VACATION ACCRUAL (Bi-Weekly Accrual):
0< 3 year = 80 Hours (10 Days)
4< 9 years = 120 Hours (15 Days)
10 or more years = 160 Hours (20 Days)
Maximum Vacation leave accumulation is 480 hours.
SICK LEAVE: Four (4) hours Sick Leave accrual per pay period with unlimited accrual.
HOLIDAYS: Normally 12 paid holidays per year.
BEREAVEMENT LEAVE: Allowed 5 days (3 days are County paid; 2 additional days can be taken from accrued Sick Leave balance).
BASIC LIFE INSURANCE: Equal to one times annual base salary not to exceed $50,000 of term life coverage. Premiums are paid by the County. Additional Supplemental Life plan is available for employee purchase.
DISABILITY: Short-term Disability benefit pays up to a maximum of $461.54 weekly, payable up to a maximum of 52 weeks.
POST RETIREMENT MEDICAL CONTRIBUTION: A monthly contribution is made by the County towards retiree health insurance offered through the County as governed by the applicable SEIU Memorandum of Understanding.
