Water or Wastewater Operator (Government)

Responsibilities:

The Water/Wastewater Operator 1 regularly participates in the daily operations and maintenance of the Water and Wastewater Treatment facilities along with the Collection and Distribution Systems as directed by the Project Manager. Participates in an on-call rotation on weekends, holidays and outside normal workday hours. Will be required to respond to emergency or un-predicted situations. This is a union position and you will be required to pay union dues whether or not you join the union. 

The work schedule for this role will be Sunday – Thursday.

Qualifications:

  • High School or trade school diploma is required, an associate degree in a related field is preferred; three to six years' experience in the water and/or wastewater treatment facility operation and maintenance; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • New Jersey Water or Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator's License grade 1 either T, W, S, C license preferred or the ability to obtain through the operator's exam or reciprocity a must.
  • A valid New Jersey Class D motor vehicle operator's license with a tanker endorsement or the ability to obtain one within 90 days as a condition of continual employment. Must have a good driving record.
  • Working knowledge of the principles, procedures, methods, equipment, materials, and tools employed in the operation' and maintenance of the water and wastewater treatment, collection and distribution systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions involved in water and wastewater treatment work.
  • Must be able to lift or move up to 40 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Knowledge of computer applications.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply instructions, drawings and specifications for work assigned.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, other personnel, and the general public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
