SPECIFIC JOB DESCRIPTION:
The National Infrastructure Coordinating Center (NICC) coordinates the national network dedicated to the security and resilience of the Nation's critical infrastructure (CI) by providing continuous (24 hours a day, 7 days a week [24/7]) situational awareness, facilitating information sharing, and fostering unity of effort. Establishing and maintaining trusted relationships with internal and external critical infrastructure partners is at the core of the NICC's ability to execute its functions. The NICC collaborates with DHS Office of Infrastructure Protection (IP) divisions, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Sector Specific Agencies, other Federal departments and agencies, and private sector partners (including critical infrastructure owners and operators) to monitor potential and developing threats to, and the current operational status of, the Nation's critical infrastructure sectors.
The NICC Watch serves as IP's operational element, provides timely, relevant, and accurate all-hazards information to the Assistant Secretary of Infrastructure Protection, CI owners and operators, and other security partners to ensure that they have a dynamic, comprehensive understanding of the impact that significant incidents and natural disasters have on the Nation's infrastructure. The NICC Watch maintains operational and situational awareness of CI; provides mechanisms for coordination with government and private sector partners; contributes to national reporting; distributes key products; and shares actionable information with security partners.
Watch Analysts are responsible for assigned tasks during their shift. Watch Analysts research, analyze, compose, edit and review NICC products. They perform an initial analysis of information on questions, issues, or events involving the nation's CI. Watch Analysts monitor unclassified and classified LAN accounts, in accordance with their security clearance for infrastructure-related information. They interface with sector representatives, respond to initial requests from the sectors or other parts of DHS, and perform initial research for infrastructure-related incidents or requests for information from NICC customers. Watch Analyst positions are located within the National Capitol Region.
