Overview

The Strategic Sourcing Manager is responsible for the strategic procurement of Flexible packaging for Mars Wrigley North America.  The Flexible Sourcing Manager is embedded into our public sustainable packaging commitments and plays a key role in bringing our strategy to life.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize strategic sourcing methodology to perform category analysis, develop category strategies, source, negotiate contracts and manage suppliers to deliver total lowest cost materials, ensure speed to market, value creation and mitigate the supply risks.  Intimately understands the category markets and cost drivers and develops annual budgets for the Region.
  • Drive efforts to leverage supplier resources to bring new ideas and products/ commodities/services, including new packaging and capacity to support our growth aspirations.
  • Identify and execute productivity opportunities from a Commercial and overall business perspective.
  • Drive an effective relationship with key stakeholders to deliver competitive and market advantages through superior analysis, strategy, judgment, and execution.  Ensure delivery of business plans at or ahead of targets & plans and appropriate Commercial representation in internal business processes.
  • Deliver market trend, market development information and analysis to drive business understanding of these markets and how best to utilize the capabilities of suppliers and industry developments to deliver a competitive advantage to Mars Wrigley.  This includes leading creation and implementation of strategic supplier initiatives to deliver sustained competitive advantage.
  • Identify and implement novel and creative means for reducing costs, improving quality or otherwise improving total value for money.  This includes networking within the Mars Global Commercial community for best practices & ideas for reapplication.
  • Ensure supply chain security and contingency plans to secure business needs and provide recommendations/execute as appropriate.
  • Increase revenue for supported business by leading the sourcing of innovative and sustainable packaging
  • Work together with Quality Assurance and Regulatory to ensure all packaging in compliance with all requirements

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, economics, engineering, supply chain or related discipline (MBA Preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years experience working in sourcing field (7+ years preferred working in sourcing field, consumer product goods, and/or packaging experience)
  • Ability to convey communications clearly and concisely.
  • Excellent PC skills: MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), SAP, Outlook
  • Experience with “Strategic Sourcing Techniques” such as managing value stream, lean concepts, contractual alternatives, and buying theories
  • Strong project management skills in support of cross functional team activities
  • Exceptional interpersonal, team building, and conflict management skills
  • Ability to demonstrate proven results with contract reading, writing and negotiation
  • Experience with eSourcing tools and Ariba preferred
