Job Summary:
Designs electrical systems by developing and testing components.
Evaluates electrical systems, products, components, and applications by designing and conducting research programs; applying knowledge of electricity and materials.
Confirms systems and components' capabilities by designing testing methods; testing properties.
Develops electrical products by studying customer requirements; researching and testing manufacturing and assembly methods and materials.
Develops manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for building and assembling electrical components; soliciting observations from operators.
Assures product quality by designing electrical testing methods; testing finished products and system capabilities.
Prepares product reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends. Provides engineering information by answering questions and requests internally and externally.
Maintains product and company reputation by complying with federal and state regulations.
Keeps equipment operational by following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures; requesting repair service.
Maintains product data base by entering data.
Completes projects by training and guiding technicians.
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional engineering societies.
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Develop module specifications, FMEAs, test specifications and source packages.
Design and/or verify circuit designs.
Lead / participate in issue resolution activities during development, vehicle launch, and/or warranty periods.
Support effort to incorporate module(s) into Company's vehicle electrical systems.
Work with supplier on new module package designs to conform to Company's vehicle under hood and interior environments.
Lead or participate in teams to develop the required vehicle function control requirements that are incorporated into the controllers.
Prototype possible cost saving or development issue solutions in hardware and/or software in conjunction with suppliers.
Lead / participate in technical coordination meetings and trips to supplier for component technical reviews.
Release component(s) into Company's releasing system.
Support activities with corporate supplier quality and purchasing areas.
Support corporate quality in the areas of plant and field issue resolution
Requirements
B.S.E.E. or related degree.
1-5 years Automotive Electronics Experience or Recent Graduate with Co-op or Summer Internship Experience
Self-starter
Possess outstanding interpersonal and critical thinking skills.
Ability to work in team environment, within Company and with supplier teams.
Preferred Requirements
5-10 years with Electronic Module or Automotive Experience
Masters Degree
Component releasing experience desirable.
Experience with electronic module design, specifically embedded electronics desirable
Powertrain subsystem or vehicle systems experience a plus
Thermal management, electronic packaging background for power electronics desirable
Familiarity with microcontroller design desirable.
Familiarity / experience in specifying or designing control system algorithms for inclusion in purchased electronic controllers.
Familiarity / experience with embedded software design desirable.
Driving and Travel Requirements:
Will be required to drive a company car. A valid driver's license is required as well as a clean driving record. Will be required to travel domestically and internationally up to 20%
