Environmental Technician - Hazardous Waste (Engineering)

The Environmental Hazardous Waste Technician will handle and package, classify, and label hazardous and/or controlled waste in accordance with prescribed procedures and regulations. Also responsible for managing hazardous waste material in database systems.
Coordinates various work related to: waste management, transportation, shipments, to include hazardous waste, solid waste, used oil and other materials
Conducts sampling of various drums, equipment, tanks, soil or waste piles, generated from testing and maintenance processes
Manages 90-day accumulation points to include the proper storage, labeling and inspection to include the written records documentation requirements
Serves as POC for craft labor to conduct waste handling operations involving tanks, drums, sumps and spill recovery clean-up
Coordinates sample analysis with the Chemical Laboratory
Collects and coordinates aerosol cans and calibration gas cylinders for venting, puncturing and disposal
Participate in internal Environmental Safety Occupational Health Compliance Assessment Management Program
Assists generators with waste turn in procedures, forms and data entry assigned by management
Classify, package, label, and handle hazardous waste/material
Responsible for the collection, storage and maintenance of waste manifests, as well as creating reports based on the generation of waste materials
Performs other related duties as required
High school diploma or equivalent required
Three (3) years of relevant experience working in an industrial hazardous waste disposal operation, including Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements for shipping/hauling hazardous waste/materials
Possess the OSHA HAZWOPER certification with the 40-hour training or the ability to complete upon hire/promotion
Possess a valid state driver's license
Ability to pass a background investigation and public trust security clearance
Computer skills with proficiency in MS office programs
Consistent with President Biden's Executive Order 14042, you must be able to meet all health requirements, including but not limited to, current and future vaccination requirements to infectious diseases such as COVID-19. The Executive Order generally requires that all federal workers and federal contractor employees be fully vaccinated by January 4, 2022.
Bachelor's degree in environmental science or related discipline
