HVAC/Controls Technician (Finance)



Overview

SJS Executives, LLC (SJS), also doing business as SJS Industrial, is currently seeking a reliable, safety conscious, experienced, HVAC/Controls to work full time for SJS in Bronx, New York to help support operations at a Veteran's Affairs facility.

SJS is a Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) with 250 employees coast to coast and a headquarters in Virginia Beach, Virginia; it specializes in professional services to support federal and military organizations.

Journeyman HVAC/Controls for VA in Bronx, NY, will be responsible to perform work to correct annual workplace evaluation issues and installs, modifies, repairs, maintains, troubleshoots, and tests HVAC systems and control panels. The HVAC Controls professional is comfortable with or specializes in the controls/control panels used for HVAC systems.

The Journeyman Electrician must possess these key qualifications to be eligible for this job:

  • 4+ years of Electrical experience; and
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, plans, sketches, and other specifications.
  • Knowledge of Life Safety Code, known as NFPA 101 requirements in order to ensure the safe and proper operation of systems and equipment.
  • Will have Trade-Specific tools/toolbox
  • This person will enjoy collaborating with a team and know how to conduct themselves with decorum, as they will be working on a property owned by the United States federal government and interacting with federal government employees and service members.

    Responsibilities

    • Following work order requests, diagnose system or equipment malfunction and repair as necessary.
    • Use knowledge of national and local codes, agency regulation and equipment manufacturer operation and maintenance manuals to properly analyze problems and complete effective repair.
    • Follow recommended maintenance schedule inspect, clean, repair, and adjust a variety of HVAC systems and their controls systems.
      • These include secondary power distribution lines and circuits used to supply a wide range of voltage, amperage, phase, and frequency requirements to distribution panels, switchgear, power and control circuits; industrial multiphase systems; thermocouple sensors; electrical intrusion alarm and fire alarm system; emergency warning systems; lighting protection systems; high intensity lighting systems with associated controls; target mechanisms; AC and DC rectification systems; galvanic and impressed current cathodic protection systems which prevent corrosion on underground or submerged equipment and pipes; amplifier circuits, and related electrical equipment.
    • Use of building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering, drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals to plan and lay out the routing, placement type, size, gauge, balance, load, continuity, and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment and controls that support industrial operations, computer complexes, or similar complex electrical loads.
    • Traces hard-to-locate defects or problems associated with the completion of repairs and installations. Determines and places distribution panels, boxes, fittings, and connections and install wiring, couplings, conduit, relays, fixtures, transformers and other electrical devices including electrical service entrances.
    • Install, modify, repair, load, and test systems, circuits and devices like those described above.
    • Normally responsible for regular interpretation of work requests, assignments, and priorities; exercises good judgment and a high degree of initiative; allowed considerable discretion in effectively and efficiently carrying out regular assigned duties; and keeps the supervisor informed of activities and progress.
    • Expected to perform as a competent skilled journeyman, using initiative; making reliable tests, measurements and adjustments; selecting equipment, tools and materials; and laying out and planning the work and techniques for each assignment without reference to the supervisor, unless a highly unusual problem is encountered or a significant departure from normal procedure is requested.
    • Shall work alone or with other workers to perform simple or complex tasks while following appropriate and safe procedures.
    • Perform outages and support construction activities as necessary.
    • Receive assignment the form of oral or written instruction (work order) to perform a variety of outlines and general objectives of work and provides information on related work and planning, but the employee will be relied on to independently handle unprecedented technical problems, without assistance.
    • Ensure all designated working areas are maintained in an orderly manner and continuously maintained free of trash and debris.
    • Participate in meetings with contractors, agencies, clients, and team members when required to do so
    • Shall follow all prescribed safety practices and must use all personal protective gear provided including but not limited to: hearing protection, hard hats, safety glasses/eye protection, safety hard toed shoes, respiratory protection, fall protection, etc.

    Qualifications

    • COVID-19 Vaccination completed. Must maintain certification of vaccination form, and always carry a signed copy when on shift.
    • Knowledge of NFPA 101 requirements in order to ensure the safe and proper operation of systems and equipment.
    • The work will tend the employee to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The work requires frequently lifting and carrying of fools, equipment, and parts that weigh up to 20 pounds and, less often, up to 40 pounds. The work is performed both inside and outside.
    • Minimum of 4 years of experience
    • U.S. citizenship or resident alien. Proof of US Citizenship or resident alien card will be required.
    • Must be able to successfully pass a drug test and a thorough background check for access onto a military installation; please note the background check for this position extends past 7 years, in conformance with federal law and US Department of Justice guidelines for work on a military installation.
