Associate Digital Designer (Creative Design)

GBH Digital Services develops digital products for the entirety of our operations, including national units, children's productions, local radio and news, education, membership, and other foundation departments. As practitioners of emerging technologies and platforms, we are first-in-class innovators for public media at large. We work on a wide variety of projects; at any given time our team can be found designing and building interactive games for kids, websites for popular PBS shows (Arthur, Curious George, Antiques Roadshow, Frontline, and more), audio and video players, media-rich archives, newsletters, and much more.

You are at or near the beginning of your career as a visual designer, with an understanding of user experience fundamentals and the UX process of discovery, research, and validation.

ABOUT THIS JOB
An Associate Digital Designer combines three core Practices…
Visual Design — the fundamentals of composition, typography, graphic form, color theory, and motion design / kinetic art
Experience Design for Children — conceiving an end-to-end experience for kids, mapping out the sequence of game flow in concert with research and engagement goals
Design Production — mastery of Adobe Creative Suite and other essential design tools to output deliverables, including wireframes and motion graphics
… in service of three key Functions…
Children's Game Designer — apply educational and/or learning goals to engaging games for kids
Web Designer — design for websites, apps, social media, and other digital environments
Graphic Artist — create new graphics, either by manipulating existing or illustrating original art
Design digital experiences for kids and general audiences with an emphasis on education.
Create production assets and design components with precision and attention to detail.
Work closely with front- and back-end developers to translate design vision into practical and well-performing digital products.
Partner with producers, product managers, and game developers in the development of children's games, with emphasis on wireframing game flow.
Execute timeline-based motion graphics into compelling interactive features using Adobe Animate.
Collaborate with lead, senior, and mid-level designers to translate abstract concepts into simple and elegant user interfaces.
Participate in the creative direction of new products through group brainstorming and workshops.
Support our audiences by crafting great experiences with a focus on engagement and interaction with our content.
Prototype in conjunction with UX lead as required.
Maintain thorough design documentation, like style guides and pattern libraries, throughout the life cycle of product development.
Required: Portfolio of work demonstrating both a mastery of Visual Design, and an understanding of Experience (UX) Design fundamentals.
Required: Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite software and tools/software for wireframing.
Required: examples of animation design, with experience using Adobe Animate preferred.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree in Design, Illustration, or comparable field, or equivalent job experience. 1-3 years of experience required..
