New England Biolabs, Inc.
Postdoctoral Fellow – Enzyme Biochemistry (Biotech)
The Molecular Enzymology Division of New England Biolabs is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow who will be involved in the discovery and biochemical characterization of enzymes involved in nucleic acid modification. The successful applicant will employ computational, genomic, and enzymology tools for enzyme screening and functional assessment. Research will be undertaken in a highly collaborative and intellectually open environment where oral communication of ideas and publication of results are expected.
Primary Responsibilities:
High throughput screening for enzymes with modification chemistry on nucleic acid.
Development of moderate to high throughput in vitro platform for biophysical characterization of enzyme homologs.
Development of moderate to high throughput in vitro platform for biochemical and kinetic characterization of enzyme homologs.
Apply high throughput analytical methods for functional characterization.
Collaborate with investigators internally and externally.
Communicate findings to the scientific community through publications and presentations.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
Ph.D. in protein biochemistry, synthetic biology, molecular biology, or related field.
A strong foundation in functional assay design.
A solid grasp of bioinformatic tools for enzyme pathway optimization, protein sequence and structure homology, or enzyme family identification.
A strong foundation in (bio)chemistry.
Protein expression and purification skills.
Enzyme kinetics knowledge such as steady-state and transient-state kinetics.
Strong analytical skills.
Strong desire to learn new skills and to expand the scopes of the research through internal and external collaborative efforts.
Strong record of scientific publication.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
Familiarity with analytical chemistry techniques such as HPLC and MS.
Knowledge of computational tools for enzyme pathway reconstruction.
Experience with automation and high throughput platforms
