Job Summary

This position is on-site in Downers Grove, Illinois with the Human Resources Department. The Human Resources Specialist provides human resources related services and support internal clients as well an Human Resources Business Partners - enforcing company policies and procedures. Performs moderately complex assignments without direction. Duties include executing and coordinating the pre-employment testing process for hourly employees; screening professional, technical and hourly resumes; managing data in the electronic recruiting system; and facilitating new employee orientation. This position will frequently communicate and interact with department managers and first line supervisors. The Human Resources Specialist will analyze and interpret data and prepare reports for management.

Expected salary range $67,000 - $82,000

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with 4 years of work-related experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Industrial Relations, Psychology or related field preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality in all matters.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to obtain a Transportation Worker's Identification Credential (TWIC)

Job Duties

  • Perform all non-administrative phases of recruiting including developing recruiting strategies, securing advertisement space with the media; screening resumes, consulting with management, communicating with candidates, developing interview schedules, and interview candidates. Analyze salary and market data in order to develop salary recommendations for candidates. Manage segments of campus recruiting and CITGO career days. Manage candidate correspondence and travel. Develop, finalize and submit HR Committee paperwork for local and corporate approvals.
  • Manage and maintain accurate data on all vacancies in the applicant tracking system. Update system and prepare weekly reports for management. Audit and close all HR job files.
  • Consult with department managers to ensure the organizational changes are processed timely and correctly. Prepare electronic PAFs obtaining appropriate management documentation and approval; verify changes are entered correctly by the HR Service Center. Communicate directly with the HR Service Center to resolve discrepancies.
  • Conduct new employee orientation. Prepare benefit binders with benefit paperwork and informational documentation. Schedule guest speakers for each segment of orientation. Present CITGO benefits, policies and procedures and other content as required. Ensure benefit enrollment documents are completed correctly and on time.
  • Other assignments including determining hourly and salaried STD entitlement according to policy or bargaining agreements; managing HR databases; preparing portions of Lemont and Cicero's affirmative action plan; supporting Employee Services Manager in bonus/merit planning processes, maintaining electronic hourly operator bid process, hourly employee seniority list, and hourly employee absence control program.
  • Support the HR Business Partner with Employee Services sponsored training. This will include researching human resource related topics; developing PowerPoint presentations; designing training handouts; and evaluating survey responses for summary and review.
  • Communicate directly with external resources, state agencies, community contacts and other organizations with sponsor career fairs, job searches, candidate referrals and employment training opportunities.
