Part-Time Photography Studio Assistant l (Creative Design)



POSITION SUMMARY:

The Photography Studio Assistant l role is an entry-level role at Ocean State Job Lot (“OSJL” and “Company”) that is responsible for assisting the in-house studio photographer with studio workflow,  product photography, and photo editing. This position is a member of the photo studio team and works with various products to organize, prepare, and style them before photographing, as well as perform final image upload to servers. The role will occasionally have the opportunity to participate in on-location photography assignments. The role has the ability to work independently and as part of a team, a keen eye for detail and accuracy, strong organizational and time management skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet daily deadlines. This position requires a passion for photography and the drive to develop enhanced photography skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist in-house studio photographer with photoshoot tasks, including, but not limited to: 

  • Lighting setup and breakdown;
  • Preparing products prior to photoshoots;
  • Arranging and styling products according to the photo style guide;
  • Setting up product props as required and needed;
  • Photographing products on a tabletop with a white background;
  • Preparing lifestyle shoot setups;
  • Assisting photographer with shooting;
  • Post-processing and editing of photos (e.g., cropping, color correction, and color balance);
  • Assisting in maintaining, organizing, and uploading photos to company asset management systems;
  • Assisting with maintenance of photography and photo studio equipment; and,
  • Organizing and scheduling product photo shoots and due dates.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A photography portfolio is required.
  • One or more years of photography knowledge and experience with the use of a Nikon digital camera, Capture One software, and studio lighting is required.
  • Must have reliable transportation, valid driver's license, clean driving record, and auto insurance.
  • Knowledge of photography or product photography experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of studio and tabletop photography is preferred.
  • Understanding of techniques, equipment and processes related to photography is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop in an Apple/Mac environment is preferred.
  • Basic proficiency in Google platform (i.e., Sites, Slides, Drive, Docs, Sheets) is required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Works primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety and health hazard
    potential. 
  • Responsible for physical activities including using equipment, positioning self to properly complete tasks, and moving and transporting photography equipment including, but not limited to, lights, light stands, and Mono camera stands on a frequent basis: Should be able to lift and move 25 lbs on a regular basis.
  • Duties may require scheduling flexibility.
  • Periodic travel is required depending on the needs of the business.

The salary range for this position is between $18.00 - $19.00 per hour. Salary commensurate with experience.
