Pharmacist in Charge (PIC)

Vetsource, headquartered in Portland, Oregon, is a rapidly growing high-volume veterinary mail-order pharmacy that dispenses non-compounded pharmaceuticals for pets, including dogs, cats, horses, and more. We are looking for an innovative Pharmacy Manager/PIC to develop and manage a new pharmacy location in Northlake, TX.  Vetsource is an efficient, high-volume operation expected to grow by 20-25% in 2024.  We are looking for a candidate who enjoys the rewards of a fast-paced and dynamic environment and truly enjoys leading and managing people. A key Vetsource value is “Embrace Change and Be Innovative.” The candidate hired for this position will be living this value daily. Additionally, the candidate will learn more about veterinary pharmacy and the rewards of serving pet parents and pets. The Pharmacy Manager/PIC will be expected to start the position in January of 2024. They will be responsible for launching and co-managing the pharmacy location, including hiring and training a team of pharmacists, technicians, and other staff to grow the operation. This is a full-time salaried position. The ideal candidate should have experience in pharmacy management and operations and be a compassionate, authentic leader. 
 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Build and expand the pharmacy capabilities to rapidly and effectively scale day-to-day functions, including facility inspection preparation and start-up tasks.

  • Responsible for the planning, supervision, coordination, and successful execution of the day-to-day functions of the pharmacy in accordance with all state and federal pharmacy regulations.

  • Responsible for the hiring, training, scheduling, reviewing/coaching, and developing staff pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and clerical staff.

  • Responsible for compliance with all standard operating procedures and company policies and adherence to state and federal regulations.  

  • Capable of working independently and cohesively with centralized operational leadership. 

  • Fosters team building and staff development for a rapidly growing team, including developing leadership structures as the team grows.

  • Works collaboratively with facility managers to ensure a resilient cross-functional workforce.

  • Develop short and long-term operational goals and metrics.

  • Ensure the division functions smoothly and meets its quantitative and qualitative goals for dispensing outputs and service levels, budget adherence, quality assurance and improvement, team and individual performance, and other key performance indicators.

  • Initiate and evolve continuous improvement practices to ensure an efficient operation. 

  • Coordinates with Vetsource technology teams to troubleshoot existing software/hardware systems and assists with defining requirements for implementing new systems.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Experience and Qualifications:

  • B.S. or PharmD in Pharmacy.

  • Active/Good standing pharmacist license in Texas.

  • 5+ years of experience as a staff pharmacist or PIC.

  • Experience managing and growing high-volume pharmacy operations.

  • Experience hiring, training, and growing teams.

  • Highly adaptable with a strong desire to learn new processes and technologies.

  • Capable of growing an operation that can dynamically adapt to aggressive MOM/YOY volume expansion.

  • Capable of licensing as a pharmacist/non-resident PIC in multiple states (up to 15) within 12 months.

  • Extensive knowledge of state and federal laws, rules, and regulations surrounding pharmacy practices and patient safety.

  • Excellent adherence to policies & procedures; demonstrates precision and good judgment in all tasks.
     

Leadership skills:

  • Proven ability to effectively hire, train, lead, manage, and motivate employees. 

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively listen and communicate information in a clear and friendly manner.

  • Possesses effective conflict resolution and change management skills.

  • Comfortable working in a highly collaborative environment, coordinating the interests of multiple stakeholders.

  • Should demonstrate a service-oriented philosophy for managing others and be receptive to 360 feedback.

  • Displays a strong commitment to continued learning and development as a manager and leader; highly self-aware.

  • Facilitates effective outcomes by considering stakeholder input and ensuring alignment with company priorities.

  • Should be adaptable, collaborative, and proactive.
     

Dispensing skills: 

  • Should be accurate, efficient, and detail-oriented; should demonstrate a high level of expertise in all pharmacy dispensing tasks.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment; Must self-direct in response to changing needs and deadlines.

  • Team building skills: Should be positive, respectful, approachable, and know how to build cohesion within the team.

  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Maintains a positive, supportive, and professional demeanor with all customers, vendors, and coworkers.

  • Solid computer skills are required, including learning to navigate new programs quickly. Experienced using email, Microsoft, and other office programs.

  • Ability to sit or stand for shift work & perform work involving light to moderate physical effort.

  • Ability to work at least 40 hours per week and flex schedule based on business needs.
