Ashland has an exciting opportunity for an EHS Specialist to join our Ashland Avoca, LLC business at our Merry Hill, NC location. This is a very visible, significant role within the Company and the EHS function. This position will report to the EHS Manager.
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Ensure facilities comply with all Federal, State, and Local environmental and safety regulations.
Provide leadership in driving the company's efforts around safe, compliant, and responsible operations with a main emphasis on driving process safety incident performance results to ZERO.
Acts as a main point of contact for multiple facilities regarding process safety performance improvements, technical support, and program implementation.
Manage all OSHA Process Safety Management elements.
Provide technical support in the areas of process safety and apply technical knowledge to negotiate regulatory compliance (e.g. OSHA PSM, EPA, NFPA, etc.)
Lead process hazard analysis (PHA), risk assessments (LOPA), and Pre-startup Safety Reviews (PSSR) to ensure process hazards are identified and verify that appropriate prevention and/or mitigation layers are installed/implemented to meet company risk criteria.
Represent sites in government inspections and process safety compliance audits creating/maintaining action items with due dates and responsible person.
Assist in new project development ensuring that all aspects of environmental, health, and safety have been addressed or mitigated prior to implementation.
Manage Contractor safety programs and ensure all vendors comply with all Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations
Maintain Safety committee participation and discussions and communicate results/issues/health of facility programs.
Manage work permits for high hazard work including but not limited to Lockout Tag-out, Hot Work, Confined Space Entry, and Line Breaking.
Conduct root cause analyses, identify corrective actions, and utilize incident management systems to improve site and employee safety
In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:
Bachelor of Science or comparable degree in Industrial Safety, Environmental Science or other related technical degree (i.e., Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, etc.)
A minimum of three years' experience in process safety and/or engineering field (process/production, process design) in the chemical manufacturing industry.
Working knowledge of regulatory requirements (e.g. OSHA PSM, EPA, NFPA, etc.)
Ability to work with individuals and teams to lead EHS initiatives
Detail Oriented and able to prioritize work
Authorized to work in the U.S.
The following skill sets are preferred by the business unit:
Safety Certification (e.g. CCPSC or CSP) preferred
Six Sigma or lean certification
Experience working in a corporate office setting
Emergency response experience
Experience working with regulatory agencies
