Tissue Culture Coordinator (Finance)
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (other duties may be assigned)
Performs routine and successful isolation and separation transfer of plant tissue.Performs repetitive tasks with hands and wrists.Exercises a high degree of concentration and accuracy when engaged in using fine hand motor skills.Maintains neat, legible and accurate written records.Takes specific direction and then works diligently to finish the task.Works in a sterile environment under laminar flow hoods.Maintains personal hygiene to clean room laboratory standards.Planting and seeding into nursery containers in the greenhouses.Coordinate weekly lab chore assignments to include mopping, glassware, cutting parafilm etc.Works a flexible schedule as required.Participates actively in Company safety program.Participates in assigned tissue culture research activities.Organizes and maintains laboratory records and inventories.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
AA or BS degree in Botany/Biology or Chemistry with work in plant science and college level laboratory course(s).Prior related work experience.Must be familiar with lab operations.Demonstrated reliability and maintains punctual and regular attendance.Ability to work successfully, productively, and effectively in a team environment.Ability to perform the necessary laboratory tasks to the appropriate standards.Demonstrated proficiency and understanding of verbal instructions.Must have at least one or more years (this would generally be a consecutive twelve-month period) of comprehensive technician experience in the given discipline of the opening with proficient knowledge of production standards and protocol.Must demonstrate effective leadership and interpersonal skills in order to fulfill job duties.Must assist in mentoring and training full-time or seasonal technicians.Ability to assist withwork schedules and prioritization of assigned laboratory cultures.Must be willing to accept increasing responsibility.Monitors safety in the lab, which includes assuring personal protective equipment is available and worn by technicians, training technicians in job safety and protocols, following job safety analysis procedures, reporting safety issues to the supervisor and having demonstrated and proven safe working habits.Must demonstrate advanced technical skills such as assisting with quality assurance of plant collections and protocol.Must demonstrate recognized accomplishment of department objectives to ensure quality data entry and accurate report documentation.Must have demonstrated ability to troubleshoot unforeseen circumstances and provide good independent judgment and applying resource knowledge when confronted with unanticipated problems.Must demonstrate the ability to collaborate with other departments and meet the needs of those departments while maintaining a high level of productivity.
DESIRED:
Lab technician experience with verifiable references.Two years plant tissue culture experience in a production facility/lab.Experience in coast redwood tissue culture.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position is located in Korbel, CA.Nursery/Laboratory environment with moderate noise levels, occasional lifting, regular walking, sitting, bending, twisting, standing and reaching with occasional lifting of 25-50 lbs.Occasional travel to various locations in proximity to the Korbel office requiring a vehicle and ability to drive.Ability to tour logging operations, attend training and company functions.Ability to perform consistent work on a PC.Must maintain punctual and regular attendance and present appropriate professional appearance at all times.Requires the use of standard safety equipment in regulation with GDRCo.This position may be exposed to sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, chlorine, hydroxides.This position is a Physical and Mental Requirement Classification 5.
