This position is responsible for research activities in the Center for Vaccine Research. Incumbent is responsible for research procedures (bench and animal) in Biosafety Level 2 and 3 (BSL2/BSL3) environments with work in the Regional Biocontainment Facility. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, viral plaque assays, real-time PCR, ELISA, flow cytometry, media preparation, cell culture, record keeping, ordering supplies and maintaining equipment. Incumbent will be required to work with small laboratory animals, namely rodents, but may include other species as well. Basic understanding of statistical methods and Microsoft Excel required. Incumbent will be required to have good communication skills and the ability to work independently and as a fully productive, cooperative team member. Strict adherence to BSL2/BSL3 procedures is essential. Position will require some scheduling flexibility in regards to animal observations. This position may require a yellow fever vaccination. This position will require successful completion of Department of Justice security clearance for work with Select Agents and Toxins, as required by Federal regulation.
