Maintenance Technician Trainee at Mars Petcare

Location:Columbus, OH

Pay:$30.09/HR

What do we manufacture?

Pedigree, Cesar, Nutro, Royal Canin, Iams, Whiskas, Sheba, Greenies, and Temptations.

What is the required shift?

Rotating shift between 1st, 2nd and 3rd shift (must be available for all three)

  • Week One: 1st shift 7 days in a row (Mon-Fri: 7A-3:30P; Sat-Sun 7A-7:30P)
  • Week Two: 2nd shift 5 days in a row (Mon-Fri: 3P-11:30P)
  • Week Three: 3rd shift 7 days in a row (Mon-Fri: 11P- 7:30A; Sat/Sun 7P-7:30A)
  • Week Four: OFF 5 days in a row

Job Purpose

The role is designed to develop mechanical and electrical skills, focusing on maintaining manufacturing and packaging equipment from a maintenance perspective.

What are we looking for?

Minimum Requirements

  • Education:High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience:
    • 2+ years of experience in troubleshooting processes and mechanical systems
    • Fundamental electrical understanding
    • Fundamental understanding of industrial controls
    • Previous manufacturing experience

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent lifting/carrying (10-50 lbs.) and frequent pushing/pulling (50-200 lbs.)
  • Frequent handling/gripping/bending/stooping
  • Ability to work at elevated heights off a ladder or platform, climb stairs, lean over equipment
  • Ability to stand and/or work on feet for extended periods
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to support production needs and conduct multi-task work in a fast-paced environment
  • Can perform essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate of Applied Science in Electro-Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Experience with TPM, AM, AWT, 5S, Continuous Improvement

What will be your Key Responsibilities?

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot processing, filling, packaging, and warehouse systems during factory runtime.
  • Inspect equipment for wear, abnormalities, metal fatigue, and damage.
  • Write and complete planned and unplanned work orders to correct safety, product, and asset issues.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and systems.
  • Identify potential unsafe conditions, food safety risks, and make improvement recommendations.
  • Daily involvement with area/equipment AM/PM performance boards.
  • Drive the mindset and methodology to increase "Mean Time Between Failures" (MTBF) and promote a Zero Breakdown culture.
