Assistant Director of Data Management for Development - Houston, TX (Finance)
We are looking for an Assistant Director of Data Management to work in our Development area. This employee directs donor database operations for the Office of Development in support of UTHealth's fundraising program. Plays a crucial role in effectively managing and implementing a comprehensive donor database to serve the needs of many departments in addition to the Office of Development, including Public Affairs, Alumni Relations, Accounting/Finance, and academic departments across the university.
You will be managing a team of three people as well as performing duties around data management for the donor database as well as tracking productivity of fundraising. By definition this is as much a team member responsible for doing tasks as they are managing people and setting up policies and infrastructure. You will be running reports and designing queries just as often as the team you manage.
Applicants must understand development, and how it impacts an organization like UTHealth. You should have a grasp of the fundraising software Raiser's Edge and have a background where you have done collecting for a cause or organization.

You will office in our University Center Tower which is across from a major Metro hub in the Texas Medical Center. The Development department is a dynamic part of our organization, and the career path in that area is clearly defined.
Position Key Accountabilities:
1. Manages the long-term and day-to-day operations of the donor database to ensure maximum efficiency and accuracy.
2. Provides direction, training and performance management to data management team. Manages team's priorities and workload.
3. Develops, implements and maintains security policies for the donor database and related software, including reporting tools, to ensure confidentiality of donor information.
4. Prepares, implements and maintains data business rules and quality control processes for all staff involved in data entry and extraction, working with all units in the Office of Development to ensure data integrity.
5. Oversees preparation and communication of various development activity/progress reports as well as mailing and donor recognition lists.
6. Creates and maintains database tools such as queries, exports, and reports to generate lists and reports for end users.
7. Coordinates the technical onboarding and ongoing training needs of the department.
8. Explores opportunities to maximize the application of existing and new technologies and develops strategies for continuous quality and efficiency improvements. Plans and implements technology upgrades and enhancements.
9. Manages Human Resources activities of department in regards to recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.
10. Serves as the liaison with external data stewards, e.g. Human Resources, Registrar, etc., to facilitate accurate and consistent data feeds, as appropriate.
11. Serves as the liaison to the university's Information Technology team and participates in related university data management/data integrity committees or groups as necessary.
12. Performs other duties as assigned.

Tableau and SQL knowledge and experience are plusses.
Minimum Education:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, information science, business or related discipline. Master's degree preferred.
Minimum Experience:
Five (5) years of experience with relational databases, including writing and generating reports and queries, is required. Raiser's Edge or similar nonprofit fundraising database as well as experience in a fundraising office in higher education or healthcare is strongly preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
