Purpose:
~ This leadership role will support the NA CSO and his staff in working cross functionally within HMNA and with external stakeholders to execute Hyundai's vehicle safety strategy and help position the company as a leader in transportation safety.
~ Early detection and resolution of potential safety related conditions.
~ Performing data analytics on customer field data, by safety hazard, to manage and decide opening investigations.
~ Responsible for the following related to Hyundai motor vehicles:
~ Identify, analyze and evaluate significant technical conditions in the field related to durability, reliability, safety and emissions that have the potential to result in customer dissatisfaction, vehicle recalls, class action lawsuits and product liability lawsuits.
~ Compliance with National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) TREAD Act Early Warning Reporting requirements.
~ Early detection and resolution of potential technical conditions.
Major Responsibilities:
~ Identify, analyze and inform the Data Review Committee (DRC) and present vehicle safety related issues to HMA Technical Committee.
~ Evaluate and analyze vehicle conditions occurring in the field related to safety, durability, reliability, and emissions that affect or have the potential to affect product liability and warranty related litigation.
~ Identify, analyze and evaluate significant technical conditions in the field related to safety, durability, reliability, that have the potential to result in vehicle recalls, customer dissatisfaction, class action lawsuits and product liability lawsuits.
~ Prepare reports as required by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
~ Maintain regular contact with Service engineers and technical groups regarding current field issues and activities.
~ Provide technical support and assistance for projects involving the Service, Parts Distribution (Mobis), Sales, and Marketing departments on an ongoing basis. Such activities involve technical bulletin review and
revisions, accessory development and ensuring the technical accuracy of printed and electronic marketing materials.
~ Review Technical Service Bulletins, Tech Net Times, DCS messages, and other technical publications before issue for technical accuracy and clear and proper content that assist HMA departments to avoid creating materials and taking actions that may lead to government initiated recalls and product liability and class action lawsuits.
~ Monitor customer complaints to HMA and to NHTSA to verify that repair procedures are effective once a recall has been conducted.
~ Coordinate and manage TREAD Act Early Warning Reporting information:
~ Gathering activities of Service, Legal, and HMC.
~ Coordinate and manage TREAD Act Early Warning Reporting information-processing activities of HISNA.
~ Prepare TREAD Act Early Warning Reports containing Warranty Data, Consumer Affairs contacts, Field Reports, Accident and Injury Data, including relevant worldwide data-gathering by HMC, for submittal to NHTSA by HMC.
Authority:
~ Position requires a high level of technical expertise and independent judgment to assist counsel and HMC in the evaluation and defense of warranty and product liability matters.
~ Position requires attaining and maintaining a high level of technical knowledge about Hyundai vehicles to assist in the identification, analysis and evaluation of technical conditions that have the potential to result in customer dissatisfaction, or vehicle recalls.
~ Position requires gathering and analyzing field related technical information to determine product quality trends.
~ Position requires providing deposition and trial testimony as a technical expert witness in warranty matters.
Education:
~ Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
~ Master's degree a plus.
Related Experience:
~ Ten plus years of experience, of which at least five years are directly related experience in technical areas of the automobile business, with experience preferably in vehicle engineering analysis matters.
~ Two to three years of supervisory experience desired.
Skill/Knowledge:
~ Comprehensive automotive technical knowledge – body, chassis, powertrain, brakes, electrical, safety systems.
~ Ability to accurately analyze technical data.
~ Ability to communicate concerning technical issues and concepts with persons from HMA and HMC Quality, Engineering, Testing and Service, and with persons at law firms.
~ Ability to create accurate reports for submittal to government agencies.
~ Ability to develop presentations regarding technical conditions.
~ Ability to gather information from government, industry and other electronic resources.
~ Ability to analyze data and create charts and graphs and PowerPoint presentations regarding technical conditions.
~ Ability to represent the company in a professional manner to government agencies, other companies and law firms.
~ Ability to provide deposition and trial testimony as a technical expert witness.
~ Aptitude to work well with and communicate clearly with members of HMA and HMC quality, engineering, testing, and service and with persons at law firms.
