The Department of Medicine, Vascular Medicine Institute at the University of Pittsburg is recruiting a Laboratory Technician. The technician will be responsible for the expression and purification of recombinant proteins in E. coli. Other duties will include performing biochemical/molecular techniques, such as site-directed mutagenesis, cell culture, electrophoresis, western blots, PCR, and enzyme activity assays. The individual is also expected to carry out various day-to-day activities, such as making stock solutions, and initiating and tracking purchase requests. Previous experience with protein purification techniques and standard molecular biology techniques such as PCR, DNA purification and site directed mutagenesis is highly preferred. Incumbent must be highly motivated to learn, with good communication and organization skills, and have an understanding of basic scientific principles. Once trained, incumbent will be expected to perform routine work with minimal supervision. The applicant should be able to prioritize multiple tasks and work independently. A key role will be to support other members of the research team.Previous experience in a research setting and experience with laboratory techniques preferred. Equivalent relevant work experience may be substituted for degree requirement.
