Adult Programming Coordinator (Education)



GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the direct supervision of the Branch Services Manager, the Adult Programming Coordinator works collaboratively to develop, deliver, and coordinate high-quality, relevant programs, events, and initiatives for adults throughout Cecil County.   Responsible for all aspects of planning programs and events for adults including generating ideas, booking presenters, logistics, coordinating and seeing special events through to completion.  Plays an active role in identifying, securing, and managing grant funding to support and enhance adult services.  Consistently provides caring, non-judgmental customer service to all.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Develops, implements, and evaluates a diverse range of programs for adults including exhibits, educational workshops, cultural events, technology training, author visits, and more in alignment with the Library's mission. 
  • Serves as project manager and leader in system-wide and statewide readers services initiatives such as Longwood Community Read, One Maryland One Book, and summer and winter reading programming for adults.
  • Develops, plans, and coordinates programs that are impactful and responsive to community needs, keeping up to date on cultural trends and news events.
  • Proactively seeks out opportunities for special events, exhibits, and grants.
  • Engages in the grant process from start to finish, from researching relevant grant opportunities to completing and submitting grant proposals to managing and reporting on grant to program implementation and evaluation.
  • Partners with community groups, local businesses, colleges, universities and nonprofits to plan and implement a variety of outstanding programs and events.
  • May represent the library at events and programs, ensuring an excellent customer service experience for presenters and attendees.
  • Plans programming 6 to 12 months in advance. Collaborates with staff across various branches to arrange rooms and staffing, coordinate and test equipment as needed.
  • Serves as liaison and support to Administration; ensures all programming and event details are complete, up to date and properly documented and accessible.
  • Determines appropriate plans for equipment, supplies and promotional materials for library events and exhibitions, and implements them accordingly.
  • Demonstrates a continuous effort to enhance the quality of programming and efficiency of processes.
  • Monitors and evaluates the success of adult programming by collecting and analyzing data, preparing results, and sharing outcomes.
  • Conducts regular analysis of programs.
  • Serves on committees and participates in workshops, seminars, and training as needed.
  • Participates in state-wide initiatives, training, and networking.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

CRITICAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college, AND
  • Master's degree in Library Science from a program accredited or recognized as an equivalent by the American Library Association OR
  • Candidate must be enrolled in an ALA accredited program with the reasonable expectation of completion two years of hire. The candidate must be able to provide documentation to support this as part of the application process.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Professional Public Librarian certification from the Maryland State Department of Education.
  • Minimum of 2 years' related experience in event planning and program coordination, preferably in a library, museum or nonprofit setting. 
  • Experience identifying, applying for, and managing grants, particularly those related to public programming or adult education.
  • Excellent communication (both written and verbal), interpersonal and customer skills.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, detail and judgment skills, with the ability to anticipate needs, set priorities, work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and perform and/or manage a wide variety of library projects.
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Ability to adapt in the moment to effectively adapt to unexpected situations.
  • Ability to work and produce results in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in all matters pertaining to the library.
  • Excellent computer skills, including various, software packages, knowledge of internet resources and how to use them effectively. Ability to learn new skills and technologies to retain proficiency in areas of expertise.
  • Experience developing and managing innovative and effective projects.
  • Willingness and ability to acquire knowledge of library computer systems and applications.
  • Must be able to travel throughout the County and State in order to set up programs and/or exhibits, meetings, attend programs, etc.

                                   EQUIPMENT:

PC, laptop, networked equipment, AV and presentation equipment, fax, scanner, printer, digital camera, wireless equipment and other electronic equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work requires light physical effort in the handling of materials, up to 25 pounds.  Requires sitting and use of computer and keyboard for extended periods of time. Ability to travel to branch/outside locations, as required.

FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT:  Exempt

SCHEDULE/HOURS: Full time, 37.5 hours per week.  Additional flexibility for evening and weekend programs required.
