Accountant-Timber (Lewiston) (Construction)
Idaho Forest Group is currently seeking a Timber Accountant to join our team!
Responsible for resource accounting which includes recording, tracking, and reconciling information from sale/purchase of logs, scale tickets, transportation cost and accruals. This is a deadline driven position that revolves around bi-monthly payable cycles, month end reconciliation, and fiscal and calendar year end schedules prepared for outside auditors. Responsible for accuracy of all resource financial reporting. Attention to detail, time management, communication, courteous mindset and confidentiality are critical skills for this opportunity.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Maintain timber sales manage accruals & work with resource manager, monitors timber financial status.
• Review, input, and maintain timber vouchers, settlements, log purchases, contractor payments and invoices for payment.
• Prepare and process resource accounts payable checks on a bi-monthly cycle.
• Calculate and prepare journal entries and accruals. Calculate, audit and print settlements for vendors and stumpage.
• Prepare Payable batch, print settlements, review payment with resource team, after approvals send notice batch is ready for printing. After print match checks to settlements for mailing.
• Process, validate and review daily loads to apply changes to rates and contracts and run daily reports.
• Coordinate with resource manager and foresters to set up and maintain timber contracts, rates and attach to general ledger accounts in timber accounting system.
• Responsible for general ledger and balance sheet reconciliation and propose journal entries.
• Respond to all timber vendor inquiries including communications with foresters, contractors, etc.
• Input, update LPAs and monitor expiration dates on Log Purchase Agreements and slash.
• Completing bid bonds for the resource manager in preparation for timber sale bidding. Includes filling out the bid bond and getting it notarized when applicable.
• Produce and maintain required reports and spreadsheets for management and others.
• File all supporting documentation and comply with record retention guidelines.
• Coordinate central filing system for all master contracts and supporting document, including accurate Certificates of Insurance, and rates.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance or a minimum of 5 years analytical accounting experience including month end closing and balance sheet reconciliation.
• Experience with balance sheet and profit and loss accounts, journal entries and accounts payable/receivable processing.
• Experience reconciling load and scale documentation to contract terms and payments preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Proficient computer skills including advanced MS Excel experience
• Experience using an enterprise accounting system preferred. LIMS or Great Plains financial software skills desirable.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and sound judgment at all times.
• Ability to multi-task, maintain accurate records and filing and meet deadlines.
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills for communications with internal and external customers including foresters and logging contractors
• Ability to maintain professionalism in dealing with discrepancies or sensitive situations.
