Media Relations Specialist- Division of Board Members (Finance)




The Senior Media Relations Specialist assists in the Federal Reserve Board's policy of enhancing the public understanding of the monetary, regulatory, economic, and financial issues relating to the Board and the Federal Reserve System. The Senior Media Relations Specialist works under the direction of the Manager for Media Relations to provide the public with an accurate and understandable flow of written and spoken information to the media concerning the policies and actions of the Board and the Federal Reserve System as a whole or any part of it. Maintains contacts with the media, fellow regulators, trade groups, Federal Reserve staff, and others to respond to inquiries in a timely and appropriate manner. The Senior Media Relations Specialist is consulted by the staff on a wide range of Board public affairs problems and responsibilities. The position will also support other initiatives of the Public Affairs office to provide public understanding of the Federal Reserve System and its policies.

The FR-26 Media Relations Specialist role requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in journalism, business, economics, a related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Six years of specific experience in public affairs, communications, and journalism. Experience in a fast-paced, rapid-turnaround environment dealing with the media and public. Excellent communication and writing skills. The employee in this position should have a good working knowledge of economics, banking and finance, and knowledge of Federal Reserve programs, policies, and history. Must develop and maintain good working relationships with the Board, Reserve Bank senior officials, and representatives of the media; must be able to obtain and retain confidences and respect, consistent with firm representation of Board policy. Must have the ability to anticipate the impact of events in advance and develop public affairs strategies.

The FR-27 Sr. Media Relations Specialist role requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in journalism, business, economics, a related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Seven years of specific experience in journalism and public communications or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The employee in this position should have a comprehensive working knowledge of economics, banking and finance, and knowledge of Federal Reserve programs, policies and history. Must develop and maintain good working relationships with the Board, Reserve Bank senior officials, and representatives of the media; must be able to obtain and retain confidences and respect, consistent with firm representation of Board policy. Must have demonstrated the ability to anticipate the impact of events in advance and develop public affairs strategies.
