West Des Moines office of our client seeks associate attorney with 1 year of experience working on employment litigation and/or premises liability litigation. The candidate will be responsible for a variety of roles within the practice of law and perform tasks under the general supervision of a senior attorney. Will conduct research, write legal briefs or memorandum, and provide legal advice/opinions to companies and individuals. Initiate or defend litigation or arbitration on a clients behalf. Negotiate and draft contracts for business or financial arrangements, draft and oversee real estate work and help clients stay in compliance with provincial and federal laws. Researching and analyzing the law on complex issues and writing briefs for submission to a supervising lawyer. Synthesizing legal research and analysis into a coherent written memorandum or brief for submission to a client, court or arbitrator. Drafting Answers, Motions, Briefs and other pleadings. Drafting discovery and responding to discovery. Analyzing and summarizing legal documents and client documents. Conducting fact investigation including witness interviews and site inspections. Appearing in a court of law, arbitration or other judicial tribunal on behalf of the firm's client, and presenting well-reasoned arguments to the judicial body. Negotiating with outside parties on contractual issues and legal disputes, including settlement conferences. Staying abreast of legal developments in specialty area of law. Overseeing and managing caseloads; supervising work of paralegal and legal assistants. Assisting other attorneys as needed. Current or past experience with a cloud-based system is essential. Experience with legal billing software is needed. Experience conducting online legal research is essential.
