Senior Director of Distribution Center Operations - Department Head (Personal Services)



POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Director of Distribution Center (“DC”) Operations role at Ocean State Job Lot (“OSJL” and “Company”) is a senior leadership role responsible for strategy, planning, and execution of all DC activities for the company. This critical position supports a growing business of 150+ stores across 9 states, out of a main 1.2 million sq ft fulfillment center, and is responsible for the efficient flow of goods through the supply chain, from procurement to delivery. This individual will be accountable for driving operational excellence, innovation and continuous improvement across DC operations to increase throughput, reduce average cost-per-pallet, and improve service levels to the stores. This role requires technical experience in planning and implementing warehouse management systems, robotics, and technology necessary to achieve results in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. The Senior Director of DC Operations role will be responsible for building strong partnerships with cross-functional teams in buying, planning and allocation, transportation, store operations and finance to ensure strategic alignment and effective coordination on the ground. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and execute supply chain strategies to increase throughput, reduce cost, and improve  customer SLAs. 
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the distribution center(s) to ensure timely and accurate receipt, storage, and shipment of products. 
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to plan and expand the supply chain to support the company's  long term growth plans. 
  • Identify, develop and implement technologies such as robotics and automation, that deliver clear return on investment. 
  • Analyze and report on key metrics to drive performance and identify areas of improvement.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams, including buying, planning & allocation, transportation and store operations to ensure effective coordination across the supply chain. 
  • Develop and manage the DC operational budget, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively to achieve business goals. 
  • Establish and promote a diverse and inclusive culture that fosters open debate and drives results.
  • Foster associates career development, provides performance coaching, and ensures high quality attraction, engagement, and development at all levels to build bench strength.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements and internal policies and procedures. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • 10 or more years experience of increasing responsibility in a distribution center or supply chain operations is required with retail experience preferred.
  • 5 or more years of senior leadership experience is preferred.
  • Experience with warehouse management systems and related business intelligence tools are required. 
  • Demonstrated success with financial management and planning is required.
  • Excellent judgment and high moral integrity. 
  • Highly proficient in Google platforms (i.e., Sites, Slides, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Analytics).

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work primarily in a distribution center environment. Physically active position including positioning oneself, moving, transporting, and ascending and descending ladders, to relocate products and equipment.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the associate may be exposed to outside weather conditions and/or moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, or electrical components. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Some work in a climate controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard
    potential. Some sedentary, and near vision use for reading and computer use.

The salary range for this position is between $225,000.00 - $250,000.00 per year. Salary commensurate with experience.
